I’m actually kinda torn on this one.
On the one hand, Brennan’s been thinking from like Season One that she’s an anthropologist not getting to do her job. The flashback episode stressed this as well.
On the other hand, it kinda seems like a cheap way to fuck with the characters next season. “Look, they all had these amazing life changing experiences in the past year that no one else will understand!”
I was thinking about how they were going to do the “flash forward” thing, and then realized they didn’t have to because they set it up to be a year back. A couple of people mentioned on their journals that the year in the highschool reunion episode did not make sense and I figured it might have just been like a script error or a “filmed this year, aired that year” error. But the show is usually so detailed oriented and to have something like that wrong seems odd. They said Brennan was class of 1994 and celebrating her 15th year reunion. Basic math says that would be 2009, not 2010, and reunions are usually held in the spring or summer, so that places that episode in spring or summer 2009, which means the new season will probably start end of summer 2010 - real time. Of course, that begs the question: When did they cram an extra season into a year, or was it always behind until now?
So, anyone taking bets on how things will change?
* Daisy might be more confident (or dead if Brennan can’t take her for that long)
* Sweets might try to find new ways to “be himself” and end up doing stupid or dangerous things
* Hodgins and Angie baby? Or pregnancy?
* Booth is more jaded, maybe injured and doesn’t want people to know what happened until it comes out in some big episode
* Brennan secretly misses the murders and stuff, but doesn’t want to admit it, so she pretends that everything for the past year was much better
* Booth and Brennan get laid, possibly by each other
* Cam wants to kill them all for leaving her behind and alone
* The new/fill in anthropologist gets blown away (figuratively) when the main guys come back
