Notes: I haven't written fic in months (really) Please be kind!
"Sir?"
"Yes, Zoe?" Mal asked his second in command.
"Are you feeling all right, sir?" Zoe asked
"I'm feeling fantastic Zoe, thanks for askin'!" he said, clapping her on the back.
The crew, who were all gathered on the bridge, eyed each other. "What?" Mal asked them, "Why are you all lookin' like I just killed your puppy?"
"Cap'n, you just told us-" Kaylee started
"Don't say it," Jayne cut in.
"I think it's great!" said Wash said with a big smile. "I don't see any problem with-"
"Honey, just don't," Zoe said and Wash stopped but leaned back in his pilots seat still obviously pleased.
"I don't know, I think the Captain may have a good thing going here," Book said from the corner.
"See, there you go, even Shepherd agrees with me," Mal said, "You're not going to go up against a Shepherd are you?"
"Um, I am.." Simon said, raising his hand. "Sorry," he said in Books direction. "Where did this come from? I mean, even Jayne doesn't think this makes sense."
"Nancyboy's got a point." Jayne said
"Thank you," Simon said "I think."
"It's not so much that it's a bad thing, it's more..." Kaylee trailed off
"Crazy?" Zoe said
"Yeah," Kaylee said
"Nothin' wrong with crazy," Mal said
"Maybe not, but you're bordering on deranged here," Inara said as she stepped onto the bridge.
"Where'd you come from?" Mal asked looking around at her.
"I've been waiting for Kaylee outside her bunk, and your voices carry quite well," Inara said. "Mal I really think you should take some time and-"
"It's perfectly logical," River said from the second seat on the bridge. "Do it."
Everyone stood looking at River and during those few second Mal managed sneaked out off the bridge. When everyone came back to themselves it didn't take long to notice that he had gone.
River smiled.
