(no subject)
I have no energy or motivation or whatever to do anything. I'd blame stress from work, but I'm also pretty damn lazy as a rule. I've got fic that needs typed -- I really hate that part of the process -- fic that needs finished, and original fic ideas that I really should write. I've also got a business idea that might actually have potential if I can figure out how to survey the market. So what am I doing... watching Top Chef Just Desserts and poking around the 'net. Lazy, lazy.
The most I've been able to do is pick up Writers of the Future and read what stories have won the contest to see if I can write anything as good and in the required genres. I'm still a little unsure of what fantasy and dark fantasy consists of. I only found one fic in the book so far that's not scifi, and personally, I didn't think it was that great. Actually, the majority of the stories have been boring, imho. Granted, at least those writers got off their asses and wrote something, but I'm not overly impressed. I have a short fic I wrote that is along the lines of selling your soul to get something, but is that horror or fantasy/dark fantasy?
I nearly picked up Writer's Digest's contest book -- a fat magazine with a list of reputable contests. But... a lot of the deadlines I saw were for December. This December or next December? There were any damn dates! The book had "display until December 20, 2010" on the cover, which doesn't help. Has it been out for a month or so? Or since last January? Le sigh...
I suck with deadlines anyway. I tend to procrastinate. A lot. For years I kept saying I should write a fic for the Trek contest and never did. Then I finally get a killer idea and they've killed -- pun intended -- the contest. *face palm* And back when TSR was first starting to publish D&D novels, they were begging for submissions and I kept saying I needed to write up the massive campaign we'd played and submit it, but I never had the nerve and the opportunity passed.
Discipline, that's the other word. Yeah, I gots none of that. lol
