Summary : Little Changmin dares his friends to collect the most candies they can have.
“I dare you to collect the most candies you can have!” little Changmin smirked at his friends in front of him. “So, at the end of the day, the one who got more than the others, will win!”
The four little buddies were not surprised to hear Changmin proposing this to them. It was like the boy needed to dare them as much as possible; maybe he was insecure for being the youngest. He just felt the need to prove them that he was as strong as they were.
“Again…You’re unbelievable, Minnie,” a seven-year-old boy, called Yoochun, told his friend with a sigh. “Aren’t you tired of this?”
“No!”
“Scared of looosing~,” little Jaejoong replied in a murmur loud enough on purpose.
The other boy saw red. Every time, Jaejoong was teasing him- no! mocking him, and that was even meaner. Another boy called Yunho whispered a ‘Don’t’ too late. Changmin wanted to walk towards him but was stopped by little Junsu and little Yoochun.
“You two, stop it! Now, apologize to each other!”
The two boys murmured with some difficulties their ‘I’m sorry.’ They were always like this, fighting over anything, and their friends were used to it. The five children decided to meet at the same place in the evening. But not too late, okay? Because it was already scary to be in the dark, and even more during Halloween, according to little Junsu.
They parted a few minutes later but little Jaejoong and little Yunho hid behind a bush. Time for conspiracy, of course.
“Yah Yunnie,” Jaejoong whispered after checking if they had been followed. “What if we team up?”
“What do I get if we win?”
“Err… I don’t know…,” his best friend mumbled, confused.
“Okay, I’m in, Joongie,” little Yunho agreed when he took his hand while smiling.
As if he would be able to refuse his best friend something anyway. They left for their own houses because, come on it was Halloween, and it was costume’s day! About thirty minutes later, the two buddies met up in front of Jaejoong’s house. Little Yunho was dressed as a little vampire: white shirt, long dark cloak with fake teeth. ‘Waaa Yunnie is soooo elegant!’ little Jaejoong thought. The latter was wearing a white sheet with a hole to let his head out of it.
“Whoa! You look great Yunnie! Don’t bite me, hahaha!” the little boy laughed loudly.
“And you, you’re like Casper!” Yunho chuckled. “Joongie is a little cute ghost!”
After blushing at his Yunnie’s compliment, Jaejoong replied:
“Mommy wanted to dress me as a witch because we only had that but Joongie is not a girl! And Unnie helped me with this.”
“Let’s go! It’s already…” Yunho thought hard while glancing at his watch. “Three past ten! We have two hours left.”
Wow, Jaejoong admired his best friend. He was so smart! He already knew how to tell time! He took his best friend’s hand and they started with his neighbours, who gave them a few candies. Maybe because they were old, little Jaejoong thought. When they were about to go to another street, they looked carefully if their friends were around. The two buddies entered a garden where garden gnomes were standing and made their way to the main door. They knocked at the door until someone opened it and then…
“Trick or treat?”
The famous Halloween sentence. While Yunho was showing their pumpkin basket, Jaejoong was smiling widely. The perfect combo. The lady smiled and told them she had run out of candies already. Little Yunho gave up, too bad. However, little Jaejoong was sure it wasn’t true!
“You really don’t have candies for us, Ma’am?” he insisted with a stare, not too kind, not to severe. “We accept all kinds of sweets: candies, licorice, lollipop, even chocolate, ma’am.”
“I’m afraid not, dear,” the woman smiled at him. “Have a ni-”
“I see a candy on the floor,” the little boy didn’t want to give up, it wasn’t over!
“I told you I didn’t have any, this must be the last one.”
“Come on Joongie, let’s go…” Yunho whispered, a bit embarrassed.
At that moment, the door got opened a bit because of the wind and Jaejoong saw a child with a bunch of lollipops in his hands. He knew she was lying! Before the woman could reply something, he spoke again:
“He has lollipops! And lots of it! It’s not fair!” the little boy pouted as he crossed his tiny arms over his chest.
The woman sighed in frustration; she lost against him. She called her son and gave them all the lollipops before saying goodbye -apparently in a bad mood. After jumping of joy, Jaejoong broke one of the gnomes with his feet and ran away from the house. They continued their search for candies in different houses; their little basket was half full of candies but it wasn’t enough! Both of them knew Changmin wanted to win at all costs.
When Jaejoong was about to open the little wooden gate, his best friend grabbed his arm. The house looked like a haunted house: the garden was a mess, besides the people living (if there were any) in here had decorated the front with web spiders -or was it real? And some windows were a bit broken. The perfect Halloween house in sum. Little Jaejoong turned his head.
“What is it Yunnie?”
“I think there is nobody in this…house,” little Yunho murmured, trying to prevent his Joongie to go there.
“We haven’t tried yet, we can’t know!” Jaejoong replied with a smile and a thumb up.
The latter went to the door and finally his friend followed him. He didn’t want to let his Joongie alone. When they climbed the three stairs, the wooden floor creaked a bit loudly, making a few spiders to escape. Yunho put a hand in front of his mouth in order to not scream. It wasn’t as if he was scared of spiders, it was just everything that made him scared. Little Jaejoong knocked at the door, before Yunho could stop him. They heard someone walking to them and the wooden door opened. Anold man was looking at them weirdly, he was dressed as a farmer and had a walking stick in his hand. One of his eyes was shut and… Well, he was weird according to Yunho.
“Trick or treat?”
“Ooooh~ I think I may have some candies in my kitchen, do you want to pick them?” the old man smiled to them.
“Sure!” little Jaejoong exclaimed enthusiastically.
“Joongie!” his best friend grabbed his arms once again. “Mommy says you don’t enter a stranger’s house,” he added in a whisper in his ear.
“Hmpf! Okay…” the other boy pouted. “Sorry our mommies don’t want us to come in a stranger’s house.”
“Oh… Too bad then,” the old man seemed to grit his teeth according to Yunho and smiling according to Jaejoong. “Let me get them, I’ll be back dear.”
“Joongie! He’s so weiiiird! Come on let’s go!” little Yunho whispered once the man was away.
“I want the candies,” his friend replied with a pout.
Jaejoong was the stubborn kind so yes, he wanted the candies. Finally, the old man gave them some candies they waved good bye at him. When little Yunho turned his head, he swore he saw him smirking with a strange look. It sent shivers up and down his spine. That was why he said to his best friend: ‘Let’s not eat those candies, okay?’
The two little buddies stopped their chase, until Yunho had an idea.
“What if we ask your sisters? Just think about it: three candies per sister, we’ll have err… twenty-four!”
Little Jaejoong nodded with enthusiasm before taking his Yunnie’s hand and bringing him to his house. And Yunho was right; they had so much candies! More than twenty-four! He even earned a kiss on the cheek from his Joongie and they left the house with two baskets full of sweets. Then they finally made their way to the park.
The two buddies met Minenstein the zombie, Yoochun as a devil and Junsu as a werewolf. Each of them had their own box and they gathered to count the candies.
“Susu! Why do you have few sweets?” little Jaejoong asked his friend.
“I scared people, they didn’t want to give me any,” Junsu answered sadly.
“Well I have forty!,” little Changmin replied proudly with a smirk.
“That’s it? I have forty one,” little Yoochun announced while scratching his head.
“Yunnie and I have fifty!”
“You can’t be together!” Changmin frowned at Jaejoong. “This isn’t allowed!”
“Because you make the rules,” Yoochun sighed.
“No no Minnie, we have fifty for each of us!” Little Jaejoong smiled widely. “If you don’t believe me, count them!”
Little Changmin widened his eyes and started to count their candies. He would be sure until he saw them with his own eyes until truth struck him. Jaejoong was right:, they won. ‘Anyway, I didn’t lose! Ha!’ he couldn’t help saying to prove he wasn’t the last.
“But I won over you.”
It was the straw that broke the camel's back since the youngest boy walked towards Jaejoong. The latter got up and they started to run; one tried to escape, the other tried to catch him. The three other children just sighed before starting to eat the candies and little Yunho didn’t forget to throw the old man’s candies away.
