Ha! Of course Ralph would have a rather jaded view of Valentine's! Love the bearded kisses - and maybe it will lead to a little piece where Laurie shaves it off for Ralph later,eh?
Now I am rather curious whether Valentine's Day was a very big thing in England during that time period....
ahhh...dunno how 'big' the event was, but the first two cards were marked as vintage U.K., circa '40... I got a year ('43) but not a location for the third...must remember to add the link - usually include them in mapmaker_scrap posts, but didn't save them this time - would be the time I get asked...
Yes, Ralph is jaded, but he still has remnants of romance hidden beneath the beard. :-) Hadn't thought about Laurie shaving it off - that might have to happen when he returns from the war. *files thought away for later* I think Valentine's has been a celebrated holiday for a while - although not the monster holiday it is today, similar to the commercialization of Christmas, I suppose.
*sighs* This is lovely, romantic, sensuous, and has some sweet humour in it too! Darling Ralph, climbing 'gracefully out of bed'! Ah, it's so wonderful when the boys are happy...
Very sweet. And yes--kissing somewhere else just might convince Laurie that he likes Ralph's beard. It's the way my hubby tries to convince me of it's merits. (No, he doesn't usually have a beard, but if he skips shaving two days--ta da--it's there.)
I really liked the 40's valentines; a nice touch to set the mood.
I'm so glad you enjoyed and commented! I love your stories so I'm glad you liked mine. :-) The 40s Valentines are courtesy of my_cnnr's hard work. Love your icon, btw. :-)
Very sweet -- and it's lovely to see humor in a Charioteer fic, I think sometimes the angst of Renault's characters (and the book) overwhelms all other possibilities. This is a refreshing change.
thank you SO much for your comments! I'm glad you liked the humor, I think there must have been instances of it that MR just didn't share with us in the book. BTW, I don't know if I ever thanked you for telling the MR community about the 1953 version (I loved your deleted scene fic that you wrote "Wild Nights") and I have my own '53 edition now. :-)
