Is it worth trying again?

HOLY EFFING CRAP, I haven't played Maplestory in FOREVER... It's probably been two years. And I just overheard someone talking about new classes? What's been going on ( Read more... )

As someone who played in the old days, I can tell you that maple is an entirely different game now. There is little sense of community and the game is easy to an annoying level. It's about to become worse since an entirely game-changing/breaking series of patches is coming out starting in December.

As for new classes, there was a new adventurer class out around 2008, I think. Pirates. They're your basic class with 4 jobs and two branches. The past year and a half has also seen the implementation of Cygnus (which are based off normal adventurers, only overpowered and level cap at 120), Arans (overpowered polearm users that are based on using combos), Evans (a new mage class that has a dragon), and Dual Bladers (a new thief overpowered thief branch that wields two daggers). None of the new classes are worth playing, IMO, but in the newest server (Galicia), those are basically the only classes you'll find, unfortunately.

As for your comment on your laptop running it, you'll find that the shittier the computer, the better. Maplestory isn't compatible with operating systems higher than XP and if you try to play on Vista or 7 your game will crash all the time, your graphics will mess up all the time, and you'll basically never be able to go on boss runs.

D: Wow.

It sounds like it's become super shitty.... I remember they rumored about the pirate right before I stopped (Like, maybe a WEEK), but it didn't matter since training was so hard for me... No empty maps, hacks abounding... But maybe I should see if it's easier to level now, because I just need something to waste empty hours after work...

It's shitty, but it's still fun as long as you play with friends. I personally only play because of my guild, but I was that way even back then, lol.

It is WAY easier to level now. You can get to level 40 in one day, pretty much. I don't like it being so easy, but... if you just want to play casually, that's probably more appealing.

The biggest problem now is that it's hard to play at all if you're not a millionaire irl. The game is highly based on things you buy in the cash shop, and you can only be far below mediocre in the game if you don't spend at least $50 a month on the game. It's still possible to play without paying (I still spend what I did in the old days- $15 over 3 months for a shop and my pet loots), but you'll never be "good enough".

Again, though, if you're only playing casually, that likely doesn't matter to you.
