Stepping Up
Greetings, to those of you who are still here, and much thanks to you for sticking it out. I am Lisa (also known as Mei to those who play on Bera), and I apologize for being more of a lurking mod. My job wasn't entirely specified in clear cut boundaries, so I have not actually done anything in the modly direction yet. However, a lot of stuff has come up, and I wish to address them all.
First of all, the anger needs to simmer down. On both moderator and normal community goer sides. I have spoken to ultima_chocobo about his last post since it was entirely uncalled for (people who are getting warned need not be on such a public level, and will be from here on out dealt with by me) and he has agreed. I have also spoken to rykani about her modding abilities... and she will no longer deal with confrontations/drama/issues that arise and will strictly be a graphics/layout mod. This has been a council wide judgement. On the flip side, cieran has resigned as a moderator.
Secondly, a lot of people seem to have been complaining about the way Ultima head mods this community. If Ultima had to check the community every day, then he would not need side moderators. If there is a problem, the side mods must be contacted first. Ultima is only to step in when nothing else works. If a situation arises in a store, would you immedately go to the district manager? No. You would go to an employee, and if they're useless to you, you'd climb up the ladder. Because, the customer is always right.
Herein lies another problem. Someone else has said that members run the community, not the moderators. Which, in a way, is true. There is no need for moderators if there are no members in a community. However, we have been trying really hard to make up a certain structure for everyone to follow. Whenever a new rule is suggested, people break them. I don't know if its for attention or if because they think it's "cute" or whatever.. but it's very frustrating to try to maintain balance only to have people purposely overthrow the scale.
And this is the second reason why I am making this post.
This post is here for you all to come bitch at me. No holds barred. Let me know how you truly feel: I swear that I will be the only mod who deals with it. I want to know what you want to see happen to the community, what kind of rules we should/should not have, and so on. I will then pick some consistancies out, and then I will put up a poll asking you all what you think. The majority will rule, because that's how it should be, right? The members decide how they want things to be run.
The only thing I ask is please do not try to invoke anymore drama. If you must post something, please do not intentionally be snarky or overly flaunting with it. If you truly believe that your way is the only way to do things (I won't point anyone out specifically but you know who you are) just let your facts show that. Be the better human and let your facts show your intelligence: resorting to demeaning somebody isn't showing intelligence, it just shows that you're a jerk. And nobody likes a jerk.
Also, any direct comments should be mailed to maplecouncil@gmail.com. Everyone in the council has access to this, and one of us will answer your inquiries/complaints as fast as possible. This saves time and also keeps everyone from flooding only one council member's box in one sitting.
With that said, I am stepping off my soap box and leaving you all to flood my inbox with your opinions and stuff. All comments to this post will be screened.
