The Stable I

Oct 08, 2006 09:19

So I started on the Keyaki server in JMS at the end of July. I tried to get as many characters as I could up and running during the inital event and then move from there, keeping them at relatively same levels.

What I've done is taken current info on my character and put it out there. The good, the bad, the ugly, who, where, what, why, when, how much, so on and so forth.

So, without any further ado, here's my LUK Bandit on the new server

First off are my AP stats:

As you can see, it's a perfectly normal LUK Bandit. I'm not really spending much on this character as much as I'm spending it's money on other stuff. It won't be a DEX-less Bandit. People in JMS don't really make those anymore. I'm planning on doing a bit less DEX for now, but then adding it in later.

Why?

Well, just recently they introduced new scrolls. Bottomwear DEX and Topwear LUK.

Yup. So no need to scroll overalls for DEX anymore. Not for Warriors, Bandits, Assassins...whatever. The problem is that I don't have the money to buy these scrolls yet. But that's OK, I don't want to scroll that stuff for awhile anyway and this character is my lowest-levelled one and I play it very little due to the fact that there's no pet on that account. I'm waiting for the YETI dammit!!!

So if I need more points in ATK and I want LUK, I'll use the items for my level. These posts will have a common theme which is HP and DEF.

All I care about is HP and DEF in that order. I could give a crap if an item has extra STR/INT/DEX/LUK. I don't want it to get me enough points to wear another item. If it helps my attack or something, that's cool, but much more than that I am looking for defence, defence, defence after HP. There's a lot of places you can't go and things you can't kill unless you survive. You need HP to live and defence is pointless unless you have a ton of it and all the current equips for your level.

That's why DEX-less/Low-DEX got passed on by me this time - I am going to have a set of equips for my level that are DEF and another set that are DEX/LUK. When I'm not getting thumped I'll take the extra attack, when I am I'll wear items for DEF.

And no, I can't tell you the formula for DEF. All I know is that when you have enough of it stuff stops doing damage and you generate more Misses from monsters.

I'm a 4/4 for STR/INT, I have 136 Accuracy and 126 Avoid. Base damage is 233-382.

Now onto my skills.

Rogue skills, page 1/2:

Rogue skills, page 2/2:

19 of 20 for Nimble Body, 20 Disorder, 1 Dark Sight, 20 Double Stab and 1 Lucky 7.

Not perfect. Nimble Body is a must of course. I never make Rogues without Disorder anymore so that's maxed. Dark Sight is useless except for emergencies, don't care about that and 1 point works awesomely. Double Stab I need. And Lucky 7 I used to powerlevel myself and never got around to changing the point into Nimble Body.

But because I have Disorder I rarely get hit anyway, so I don't really miss the 1 Nimble Body. And I still have good Avoid/Accuracy. I may never change it and bring a Claw later on. Who knows?

Bandit skills, page 1:

It's only level 37 so there's not much to see there. But it's got 19 Dagger Mastery since you don't need 20 and 3 into Booster. Normally I take Booster to 6, but I'm well-funded enough that I don't care right now so I'll probably leave it at 3 and just use more potions.

Mastery is a must to raise up your base damage. Savage Blow doesn't do much damage when it's all over the place. If you have no Mastery and the range is 38-380 damage, a maxed SB would do between 30-300 per hit. If you have Mastery it will do 230-300 per hit. So that's why I took Mastery before touching SB.

I use Disorder to make SB more effective, to get mobs off of me and to help generate Misses so I can get invincibility. I use DS for it's knockback and quickness and I use SB for damage and to finish monsters. If you carefully manage what you hunt you can just do 2 DS or 2 SB, never using Disorder or DS...whatever. But I mix it up, I'll hunt anything I can hit and reasonably knockback. It's a money-loser, so I usually alternate between things.

For 35-37 on this char I went from Copper Drakes/Fire Boars for fun to Field Foxes/Raccoons for XP. Field Foxes/Racoons are some of those "legendary" JMS creatures that are a bit skewed. 1000 HP and 100 XP. So 2 hits of Double Stab and you're in. Of course with a 2x XP card it's 200 XP. Getting 100 XP every time you use Double Stab makes training easy, but boring. I'd do Wild Boars but it's not a guaranteed 2hKO. Also since I don't have a pet I try to do stuff that isn't too overwhelming. I train slowly on this account. Killing mobs just means more time NOT training while I loot myself. They're really not THAT great, their spawn is crappy. But it's a steady pace.

My gear:

Ok, so here's my Korean Fan:

Korean Fans are hard to find in JMS since they changed the drops. Not many of them exist. I bought this pre-scrolled for 3mil, which was a pretty amazing deal. It's +6 LUK, 64 ATK and +6 for Accuracy and Avoid. The 1 WDEF is meaningless. No slots left, either.

I think it's important to get a good scrolled weapon for your Bandit. The damage is low but a Bandit's LUK is high, so if you have good ATK you get a nice multiplier from your LUK. The amount of time you waste and money you lose training on weaker stuff is way worse than buying a good item, especially for Bandits who really need good items much earlier than the other classes. That's why they're expensive to play.

If I didn't have that and used my 47 ATK Korean Fan my damage goes to 166-272!

If the MP cost is the same for DS no matter what, I might as well be killing better monsters. Saves me time...less kills, saves me money...more damage.

If I didn't have a good KFan I would have waited on the character at 35. I have my level 40 PET Bottle, but no Maple Wagner, either. I don't really want to level the character until I have those weapons, scrolled and ready to go. Almost every Bandit I've ever deleted was because I didn't have the right items for it and I wasn't going to spend the money on it.

Nothing really matters but the weapon for a long time. If you sat down and thought about it, the time it would take you to level a Bandit WITHOUT a buff weapon you could build a Lightning Mage to fund and equip your Bandit and still get your Bandit to the same level AND have a buff Lightning Mage IN THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME. My IL Mage is 51 and all I do is farm money and equips with it. I don't even TRY to train it. I die with it ALL THE TIME. I don't care!

No one loves Bandit. Bandit's awesome, you just need a lot of help early on. It's easy to get it to a certain point, but once you're there it really drops off without some help.

Here's my Raggedy Cape:

I don't even know what the deal is with this. I don't know where I even got the 100% LUK scroll, but with a bunch of characters you do have Raggedy Capes to burn. I like it because of the Avoid. I'll keep using Avoid, when it's 42 I'll give it an Icarus with Avoid. I covet Avoid because coupled with Disorder I can generate a lot of Misses.

Here's my Red Avenger:

+10 on the 100% Overall DEX. Again, don't care. I won't use my level 40 gear very often. I'm shooting for level 50 to scroll the gear for DEX/LUK and use that. I just want some extra DEX to help wear items until then. I like this because it has decent defence. I try to have SOME defence.

STR Wristguard:

20 WDEF and +2 STR. The STR is pointless, again I don't care. I tried to scroll it with a 30% Shield DEF scroll but it failed. I just want to buff it with defence for the long-haul. It's a nice Wristguard. I might still scroll it later.

Gold Arbion:

Don't care about the LUK...won't scroll it, I just want the DEF. When you have a good mix of DEF from everything and weaken enemies with Disorder, you don't have to worry much about HP pots.

Red WL Boots:

Don't care about the lack of speed. I don't really care about a Snowshoe, either. I plan on keeping up with my shoes when I level for the extra DEF. Believe it or not, I will probably be maxing Haste! If you're with me this far, it's probably obvious why: since I'm not going DEX-less, I will not be wearing items for Speed/Jump, but for defence. And defence is more important to me. It depends on the kind of Bandit you make, but if you're not wearing anything but the same equipment for the life of the character, you might as well get stuff for Speed/Jump and skip on Haste. But I'll need Haste.

And the rest of my crap:

All of that stuff in the 1st 3 rows I'll never use or never used. I just happen to have it. It's garbage. I have some Wristguards that I will scroll. I'll do 30% cursed scrolls on them until they die. 1 scroll per item, and the ones that take I'll put more on.

The Bath Robe is for when I want more Speed. Don't wear it too much. Scrolled it to +10 DEX. The PET Bottle is average, so it's +3 LUK and 53 ATK. Hopefully I can scroll it up to near 70 ATK, otherwise I'll stick to the KFan.

I have a Shi*kita...doubt I'll use it. As we all know they suck.

Misc:

So the character is named Pearl Harbour. Remember this post?

http://community.livejournal.com/maplestory/2012707.html

Perhaps you can figure out the joke with half of it already.

Yes, I have a character named Pearl Harbour on a Japanese game and I attack it in the middle of FMch1.

Let me tell you, the Japanese players love it. They're either totally psyched or totally appalled or totally appalled that they're actually psyched by it...hahahahaha

I also have some video of the character and how Disorder works, but I have had a lot of problems with the software so I've put that on hold. I'll never convince any of you to max Disorder until you see me using it, so until then you can think I'm crazy for taking it instead of Dark Sight LOL!

So hopefully that was interesting. Bandits are really fun. If it piques your interest or sparks your imagination in any way, comment and I'll tell you what I know or why I did it.
