Any guide for any class that has you taking anything before Booster is wack.

You can have Ice Strike that is slow and lame, or...

You can have a really fast Lightning and Cold Beam that already have full 60% Mastery and pretty good Spell ATK if you do Booster first.

It's lame without Booster. You can take 1 Ice Strike with your first point if you want to check it out, but it takes forever to get it good (in range, Mastery and damage) and when it does get good, you still have no Booster.

Or if you did Booster first, when you finally do get to Ice Strike, it's going to be awesome because it's fast.

I wouldn't worry too much about Amp to begin with. You can't afford it yet.

Don't get caught up in just the SMA of the skill. You still have no range with it and no Mastery, so the damage is all over the place. If you really wanted to Amp up Cold Beam and Lightning you could, but I don't reccomend it.

Do this. Find some MIL with Ice Strike. Watch them attack stuff. Until the last damage number appears, they're locked in...they can't repeat the attack. They have to wait for the animation of the ice coming down before it's done.

Then go attack something with your Lightning. See how your damage numbers all happen at pretty much the same time? The animation and the hit are almost the same.

If you get Booster, Lightning becomes insane and Ice Strike recovers much faster.

Every class, Booster, Booster, Booster...but for MIL or MFP they gotta take it to 11, while other classes can get away with a few points and then revisit it later.

Doesn't it take 3 points to amp to unlock booster? I think I am going with the early booster idea. It sounds very valuable. so..that would mean I should do 3 into Amp, 11 to booster and then max IS?

I went with your advice on slow and it has paid off really well! So, I'd also like to thank you on that one man :)

Doing 3 Amp is no biggie because it unlocks 2 things, Booster and Seal.

The cool thing about doing some Seal early on is that it keep extending the window you have/need to do Ice Strike.

If you don't have Slow (and a lot of people don't because they took MP Eater and then thought "well, I can freeze stuff, why do I need Slow?" yadda yadda), it's absolutely imperative that you get Ice Strike because you need it.

But if you do have Slow, some Booster, some Seal, you don't need it as soon. Of course it's your money attack, and you should still do it before Spear or Comp. The thing about Seal...1 point =38% success rate. Not bad. But 5 points is 50% success rate.

If I decide to follow through on my IL Mage I'm working right now and take it to 70, I'll probably do it like this:

70: 1 Ice Strike (because you can still use it as a last resort when you're inside a mob doing Lightning)
71: 3 AMP
72: 1 Booster, 2 Seal
73: 3 Seal
74-76: 9 Booster
77: 1 Booster, 2 Ice Strike
78-86: 27 Ice Strike

I'll admit, I don't have all of the nuances of the 3rd job stuff down, as in nice combos and the like, but to me, Slow+Seal+Fast 2nd job attack is key, especially because I am LUK-less and have absolutely no defence. For you, maybe that's not as important. But for me, it's critical because I take an absolute beating.

But you're welcome. Slow and Seal are freakin' awesome.

I can see how it works out. Slow is definately a valuable skill. More so over MP eater. A few of my friends say that by maxing slow, I ruined my second job build but, i've begged to differ on the premise that not everything can be frozen. Also, slow is great when you wanna slow monsters down from closing in on you and always keep them out of attacking range so you can hit them.

Seal looks important but, do I really need such a large amount of it early on? I figured my build could look something like this:

70: 1 AMP
71: 2 AMP 1 Booster.
72: 3 booster.
73: 2 IS. 1 seal.
74-78: 12 IS.
79: 3 booster.
80: 3 booster.
81: 1 booster. 2 IS.
82...etc: Max IS.

___

Your build looks pretty decent too. I can see how a combo of seal and speed would be great against Red Drakes, Macis..etc. I wouldn't find levelling impossible if I held off working on my IS between 78-86?
