A Deed is a deed

I did something today.

I was at the OPA shopping mall in Fujisawa-shi and when I walked out the door, I saw an older Japanese man (about 35 to 40) yelling at a young Japanese woman who was working for OPA, handling out flyers. Obviously she had handed him a flyer and I think he got very angry. The flyer was on the ground.

I looked for about 3 seconds. I thought he was leaving and then he returned and started to harangue her again. I did not even think about what I was doing. I just walked up to them and then put myself between her and the man. He was almost as big as I was. I asked her if she was ok (Dijo-bou?) and she sort of nodded her head. But the look in her eye was of pure... well I want to say terror but she was scared and uncomfortable and for some reason it made me act. I will not forget the look on her face.

There were many people looking on as this was happening but no one made a move to help or to intercede.

I turned to face the man and stood directly between him and her, staring him right in the eye. He looked me up and down but I stood my ground (perhaps menacingly I did stare). I put my arm out to prevent him from approaching her. I pointed for him to leave and I think I said Ikimasu(go)! He scurried away (I think).

I then asked her if she was ok and she said "Arigato Gozaimasu" (Thank You). I told her it is was ok:) (Di-jobu).

Which brings me to a problem...
Does the deed become less of a good deed when you realize you did a good deed?
