Title: The True Colour of the Sky
Fandom: The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Characters: Chiaki Mamiya, mentions of Makoto Konno and Kousuke Tsuda
Genres: General, a bit of Angst/Romance
Rating: PG
Summary: A blue sky was just one of the things he didn't know before he leapt...
Chiaki Mamiya's skin drinks in the sunlight. His eyes take in the wide blue sky above him, and he smiles. He must seem crazy standing there enjoying things the people of this era take for granted, but to him they are important. It is important for him to take it all in.
When he goes back to that place(he dare not call it home for his heart has no roots there), he won't feel warmth like this, see a sky like this. In that place, the sky is so far away, that the sunlight can't reach the ground. The sky is no bigger than a folded handkerchief and while everyone considers climbing the stairs of the abandoned skyscrapers once in their life, no one dares because the dark green smog will kill them before they can clear the clouds of pollution and find the true sky.
Everyone takes for granted that the sky is blue. No one even considers that the Earth's sky might be any colour but blue. Chiaki's seen it, though. Chiaki's lived it.
So here, in this time and place, where the answer to the question 'What colour is the sky' is always blue, the (secret) time-leaper enjoys it while he can.
When he's seen that painting he'll have to go back there. That painting is the reason he's here. The painting that he hopes will give him hope that Japan will pull through the hard times that lay ahead just like they have in the past...
That day will be soon, but not too soon...
It's a day far enough in the future that his heart has found roots in the bustling capital under the blue sky he's never seen before in all his years.
“Hey, Chiaki! Hurry up!” Makoto shouted back at him, Kousuke at her side as they lingered at the gates of the baseball diamond.
“I'm coming!” Chiaki turned away from the sky, pedalling hard, rushing towards what rooted his heart to this time.
