I urge you to support H.R. 2015. I approve of this original version of the Employment Nondiscrimination Act specifically because it, unlike a more recently proposed alternate version, protects transgender people. While I myself am not transgendered, I find it noxious that anyone would introduce a nondiscrimination policy specifically to exclude a particular group. If Title VII of the Civil Rights Act that E.N.D.A. is based upon had originally included both race and national origin and then the latter had been removed, it would have sent a clear message to immigrant communities such as those of my neighbors in Albany Park that they lack legal rights. What is being done with ENDA sends no less clear a message to transgendered people around the country and is just as reprehensible. Congress should pass the original version of ENDA (H.R. 2015) that includes both gender identity and sexual orientation. Thank you for your time.
I urge you to send this or a message of your own to your
congressperson. If you're feeling really motivated, you can also send the following or a message of your own to Speaker Pelosi at
AmericanVoices@mail.house.gov.
I am saddened by your decision to support a weakened Employment Nondiscrimination Act. While I myself am not transgendered, I find it noxious that anyone would introduce a nondiscrimination policy that specifically excludes a particular group. If Title VII of the Civil Rights Act that E.N.D.A. is based upon had originally included both race and national origin and then the latter had been removed, it would have sent a clear message to immigrant communities that they lack legal rights. What is being done with ENDA sends no less clear a message to transgendered people around the country and is just as reprehensible. I know that your intention was not to send this message but that you are simply working to get the legal protections that you can for those people that you can. That being said, as a lesbian I do not feel right knowing that my employment security comes at the sake of someone else's. Congress should pass the original version of ENDA ( H.R. 2015) that includes both gender identity and sexual orientation. Thank you for your time.
And on a totally different note, chag sameach to all the yidden reading this (no, doubt, unlike myself, after chag ends, 'cause y'all are Good Jews :)).
