Paige's Guide to a Singleton's V-day. Sleep was interupted not by my alarm (set for 7) but by a phone call (wrong number) at 6:30. Went to bed at 1:30 having stayed up late to finish the pchem problem set on which I'd procrastinated. Trying to decide whether to nap at 3 (when commitments are done 'til 7) or use this to re-adjust to a diurnal sleep schedule.
I don't think this semester's Meridian shift is going to be the study hour that it was last semester. While this way is more entertaining, I need to realize that things like problem sets will not get done 7-9:30 sunday nights...
Tonight I'll probably go to the student senate meeting about creating a diversity commission. Tomorow I'll most likely go to Richmond in the probably unrealistic hope that my presence will help prevent a Virginia marriage amendment.
Oh, right, I got appointed chemclub v-p of propoganda. Theoretically officers are elected, but ProfPoutsma decided that there were few enough juniors at the meeting that he'd just invoke dictatorial/advisor privilege and choose people for various positions...

I was concerned that this implied a conservative political leaning within the department. Then I read the cards - they're intended for professors. In other words, the CR's aren't familiar enough with the department to know that those mailboxes (all 50 of them!) are for students, not professors (who have their mailboxes a few yards away, inside the chem. office). I'm strangely reassured by their ignorance of my chosen department...
