http://www.flickr.com/photos/manzanita9/ Well having shoved off from Mattawa I have experienced most of phase 3 of this trip. I went and saw my sister in Toppenish and had a wonderful time hanging out with her as usuall. Spent the next day shopping for clothes and then got restless and went and saw "Flushed Away" after which I threw caution into the wind and it came up heads so I left for Bend that night. I only got as far as the Oregon border before I called it good at a very opportune truck stop where I spent my first night out of washington. In the morning I headed for Bend and decided to get the oil changed before sight seeing. This resulted in one very long oil change and a cold night in my 0 degree sleeping bag. In the morning I tried to take my car to get fixed but the shop was full (it was making a bad acceleration at unwanted times) so I hiked this great river trail that goes along side a volcanic lava flow that forced it to run a new direction and make some waterfalls. It was a good hike and good to be in nature. Knowing that both snow and freezing weather were on their way I headed over the passes to see if I could make Portland which I did. The Wal-Mart there proved less hospitable and my prescence at 0 dark thirty was appreciated by security personel who I kept in buisness. After leaving their private property and recalling a mountain in Portland that Don Miller wrote of in his books I discoverd I was not far from it and that it opened at 5 AM. I waited till it opened and then slept on it to awaken to the sunrise and a new and eventful day. My Car did weird stuff...so I canceled my rendevouz with my Siblings and Mother in favor of getting the car in the shop early. After 7 hours no verdict and a recommendation to take it to the jeep dealership that didn't open till monday. Ah, but during said 7 hours I got to explore my old stomping grounds in Beaverton where I used to live and even eat at the OC Buffet and see 2 people I used to work with. Spent the next 2 nights with my Aunt and Uncle in Hillsboro and got to Go to my old Church and run into two people that I used to know. Which brings us to today in which I discover that indeed the Jeep dealership can fix my problem in exchange for a large sum of money. So once again I will enjoy the company of relatives while I ponder anew what direction this will dictate for my interesting meandering. More of my thoughts on life next post...for now I need to find my way to my other Aunt and uncles house in West Portland.
Yours as ever, Manzanita.
