And perhaps a division win to go along with it *crosses fingers*
Ya know what's kind of sad and ironic about B.Webb's 33-scorless innings streak? If he was with any other team, say the ugh, Yankees, or the Red Sox, or hell, even the Cubs, I have a feeling that ESPN and the like would be following it a hell of a lot closer then they are. But because he plays in Arizona, and not Boston Or New York, it didn't happen. Stupid East Coast bias >_<
Let's see, his last loss came 7 20th vs the Cubs, 6-2, where he actually pitched pretty well, but the bullpen coughed it up (ha, kinda like yesterday, only w/ Owings)...the team, at that time, was nearly five games back in the division and pretty much circling the drain. But in the proceeding three weeks, Webb's not only not given up a run, but now the D-Backs are in the division lead by 4 1/2 games and (God-willing) climbing.
shopping day sat night was a prime example...Justin Upton provided the offense, with a triple that scored Byrnes in the 4th, and Webb did the rest, going on to win a CG shutout, 1-0. Granted, it was against the Nationals, who quite frankly, suck...but that was cool.
Could have done without yesterday's loss for a number of reasons, the biggest being that Owings had the damn game won. God, he just has such garbage luck it's almost sad. The bullpen blew two late leads...and while watching the game on TV, I'm pretty sure I used up all my stores of cuss words as it was happening. Nice, guys, I really appreciate it *rolls eyes*
As for B.Webb, if he doesn't win (or at the very least, get serious, SERIOUS consideration) for this years NL Cy Young, it'd be a crime.
