Comment and I will give you 3 fandoms and then you have to answer these questions.
1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think that you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fan fiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?
SUPERNATURAL
1. Genre. Most of the tv I watch is somehow genre related, in this case I was drawn into the basic premise, the hunting of supernatural things, before I even knew they were brothers or anything else, I'd seen publicity for it and decided to give it a shot. It took several episodes in for me to realize that Dean was Alec, so the credit for this one goes entirely to the show's premise.
2. I'm pretty sure I'd stay. Mostly because I've been around since Bloody Mary which makes a hell of a lot of time, I've seen the show evolve as well as the fandom, I've evolved just as much and I can honestly say that I think it's made me a better, more critical tv viewer. I spot things now (in terms of social tendencies, meta possibilities and style/cinematography aspects) that I'd never bothered with before, always took them for granted which, I think, took something away from my appreciation for previous shows. I'm more aware of these details now and they definitely factor in when deciding to watch a new show (though, of course, they're not the only thing I take notice of)
3. Um. In My Time of Dying continues to be the bestest episode in my book. It was raw, emotional, full-circle and engaging. Not to mention beautifully shot. But story-wise Nightshifter takes the cake, I think it's a perfect example of how an episode can both advance the season arc and remain as self-contained as can be. Also awesomely shot. Um, Crossroad Blues. Criss Angel is a Douchebag.
4. Sometimes. It depends on the author and the trust I have in their handling of the material. It's a tricky one because while the fandom as a whole is overwhelmingly talented, I need to be a the mood for Spn fic, be it gen or otherwise. This is, clearly, a personal issue, which percolates in my utter insecurity when it comes to write fic myself. I spawned a couple a way back but wasn't too happy with them, have continued to write ficlets, but remain unhappy with the results.
5. Tricky question. A larger fandom would (most likely) benefit the show itself by bringing in more viewers and potential merchandise buyers. But. This fandom is crazycakes. So if you have the courage to deal with the crazy, you'll be in for a real treat once you've found your little niche in it. I personally NEVER get the wank until it's cooled down some and always through other people's retelling of it, so I consider myself lucky, which does NOT keep me away from the good stuff either, so I'm talking from experience here ::is experienced::
DOCTOR WHO
1. Genre. In fact, it is quite possible that this show, alongside Star Trek and Star Wars gave me the bug for non-reality based stories. The X-Files definitely came after The Doctor, as well as Buffy. So I don't know, I guess that younger me found it fascinating or fancy in some way and thus stuck to it. Even though I did watch the occasional episode (semi-religiously, it wasn't such a hit back then where I was living at the time, but I do remember watching) I have to say that Ten is my Doctor. He has severe issues with women and I honestly frown at his Rose-thing but I forgive him all that because there's this childish glee mixed with the utter pain of having done what he's done (and then losing Rose, as well) that just pulls me towards him. Nine was kind of a raw wound where Ten in scar tissue constantly picked at. Plus Tennat is Master of the Universe, or something.
2. I'm not as active in this fandom as I am on Supernatural's (I'm not as active in any fandom as I am in Spn's), but the production of fanfiction and meta commentaries is rich enough to keep me hooked. I'm sort of convinced that Moffat's Doctor will rock the world regardless of Tennant's absence (even though I'll pro'lly spare a minute of silence in honor of Ten before every episode featuring Eleven, just out of respect) as Moffat does wonders with his scripts. Or at least he's done wonders with the episodes I remember him writing, we'll have to see if it was just my reaction to them not sucking quite as much as RTD's...
3. Let's go with New Who for this one as those are the ones I remember more clearly. Or, y'know, at all. Midnight was outstanding, even though there wasn't much Donna, she was there when she was supposed to be there. Utopia was also beautiful, and this one cannot be named without including The Sound of Drums. But Gridlock is my ultimate favorite, this is where Martha sat Ten down and demanded he told her about his planet, about why was he being so distant, and while this may seem invasive of her, it allowed the Doctor to open up and let her in, something they both needed to happen. Plus the singing? Tear jerker. Also Silence in the Library/The Forrest of the Dead, hi River Song!!! I adores you!!!!!!
4. Not nearly as much as I'd like to. Take my insecurities with Spn and multiply them a couple times. Although, admittedly, this is due to different reasons. But I do indulge (read: splurge) in meta whenever available. I LIVE for meta.
5. Yes. It is an incredibly quirky show that, if nothing else, serves to lift up your spirits (and often want to knee Ten in the crotch, but that could just be RTD's doing) and make you smile. If you can ignore the glaring physical impossibilities they try to pass as cleverness.
FIREFLY/SERENITY
1. Say with me now: GENRE. Dude, outer space cowboys. What, exactly, is not to love?
2. I've stayed this long, doubt I'll be packing my bags soon.
3. War Stories, Ariel, Trash (aka Inara ROCKS), Serenity the movie, they killed Wash and made me cry, but it was closure nonetheless. Closure is always welcome. Objects in Space "We had a difficult childhood" ::loves:: Oh, and the one where Mal tells Simon he and River are crew, can't remember which but it was lovely to hear that. And the one with Mal and Inara bonding while overseeing a bunch of cattle. And the one where they get captured by an Alliance ship and they have to talk about what they do in the ship and stuff and much, much hilarity ensues. CAN I JUST SAY THAT I LOVED EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM? EVEN THE ONE I MAY NOT LIKE AS MUCH IS LOVABLE.
4. Outer Space Cowboys. Need I say more? Okay, then: Inara rocks, River is awesome, Kylee is pure and undiluted love and Zoe is my personal hero and role model. There are some pretty cool male character as well, but let's focus on my feminist little glee, okay?
Wheww.
Also? Is it wrong that I feel the utter need to read almost every singly book listed
here?
