A bubble you say?
So on Sunday I drove out to Duncanville (~30 mins) to do some curling. It was a beginner's class where we basically went and learned the basics and such. It was pretty interesting. They went over the basics of the game. Rules, what different things mean, scoring, etc. During the safety part, they made the statement that "someone will fall". Now, I expected to hear this, but I think this was some sort of weird foreshadowing directed towards me.
After it was all done, we went down to the ice to actually DO. It's pretty tricky when your actually throwing the rock. It took me a while, but i was eventually able to at least throw it straight towards where I wanted it to go. Then came sweeping. Essentially what you do here is bear down on the head of the broom and clean! It's essentially to wear down the ice so that the rock will go farther when it's sliding. My third try at this is where things got fuzzy for me. I was sweeping and all of a sudden heard a loud crack and the next thing I remember is that the side of my face was cold.
Apparently the broom broke near where my hand was just as I was starting to sweep towards me, this in turn put my arms at my sides and the rest of me heading face first into the rock and the ice. What they told me happened was that the broom broke and my head hit the rock, sending it sideways and then I went into the ice. I don't remember any of it. Luckily all I have are several tender spots, a sore knee, a fat lip, and a loose tooth that will be fine. They did say it was lucky I hit the rock that the way I was going down, I probably would have broken my nose had I hit just ice. I just kept going after that and didn't lean to hard on the broom while sweeping. Overall it was pretty fun. The season starts next weekend, but I'll have to miss the first weekend. I should make the rest of the games, though. I just need to pick up something to slide my knee on since you kind of drag it on the ice at times. Anyway, I was the only one to fall down...
