Jackal sat on a bench on the street courts that were about six blocks from Kirihara's house. Kirihara felt a confident grin plant itself firmly on his face as he crushed the fifth guy he'd played. He was having fun winning, but he wanted a challenge...

"Hey, I'll play Australian Doubles," Kirihara called, arching a brow at the growing crowd, waiting for a doubles pair to come forward and play him.

"What? Too scared?" Kirihara taunted, waiting impatiently, then finally two boys strode forward with matching determined glares and Kirihara walked back to the baseline and got ready to play.

Jackal watched Kirihara in amusement. The kid was on fire today. Jackal didn't know for how much longer Kirihara would get to play though. He seemed to have worn out the pool of players surrounding the court. But new guys could show up at any time and some of the regulars to the courts seemed to be trying to find a second wind.

Jackal checked his wallet. Kirihara would probably be hungry by the time he quit. Jackal may have to buy his dinner.

Kirihara growled in annoyance when no one came up to play him, so he stormed over to Jackal just in time to hear the older boy's cellphone ring.

Jiroh nibbled on his lip as he dialed Jackal-kun's number. He'd just left Keigo's house and decided his captain was right, he should try to get Kiri-kun and Jackal-kun to put in a good word for him with Bunta.

"Hi, Jackal-kun? It's Jiroh. You busy?"

Jackal cast Kirihara a look. "Not really. I think Kirihara's cleaned house here at the local street courts."

Jackal covered the phone. "It's Jiroh-kun. I think he's bored."

"Oh yeah?" Kiri asked, "invite him to dinner. My treat. I won a couple of bucks off some of the chumps over there."

Jackal nodded with a smile. That was good, or they'd be stuck with ramen bowls if Jackal had to pay. Very small ramen bowls.

"Kirihara wants to know if you want to eat with us. He says he'll pay."

Jiroh laughed, "I'll pay my way. Where should I meet you?"

After all the arrangements were made, Jiroh took a car over and waited at a table, making a snake with the paper covering from the straw in boredom.

Kirihara walked into the restaurant and quickly spotted their Hyotei friend and headed over to the table with a victorious grin. "You shoulda seen me. I was so on today."

"How nice, you ordered drinks," Kirihara smirked, leaning across the table to take a sip of Jiroh's jasmine tea, causing the other boy to shoot him a mildly indignant look.

Jackal slapped at Kirihara's hand absently. "And so well-behaved until now."

"How have you been today, Jiroh-kun?" Jackal asked. Jackal grabbed a menu to scan over drink choices before waving at a waitress.

Kiri shot Jackal a dirty look before ordering a coke and a glass of water from the waitress.

"Yeah, what's up?" Kiri asked, "you typically hang out with us after Bunta ignores you for an hour or so."

Jiroh bit his lip and stared at the table as he mumbled, "it's about Bunta..."

Jackal raised an eyebrow. Jiroh was looking particularly dejected today.

"What's the matter, Jiroh-kun?" Jackal wondered if Bunta had been rude to him again. Jackal thought he might pop Bunta one if he didn't behave himself either.

Kirihara felt his heart pound uncomfortably in his chest at Jiroh's look. Sure he'd noticed the older boy was cute, but damn, how could anyone resist that look?

"Why do you like Bunta, anyway?" Kirihara asked, attempting to be casual about it.

Jackal could hear alarms going off in his head. The look on Kirihara's face was trouble. He had started to suspect that Kirihara was getting a crush on Jiroh-kun, but now it looked like it would be confirmed.

He waited for Jiroh's response to Kirihara's question, not sure what to do.
