Neuer arrives in Munich
Munich - There was plenty of media interest as Manuel Neuer arrived in Munich on Wednesday to successfully complete a medical examination in Munich before signing his agreed five-year deal with FC Bayern.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge, my first training sessions and the training camp," said Neuer upon the definitive conclusion of his protracted transfer to Germany's most successful club. "I'm settled in Germany. I'm national team goalkeeper and Bayern are the best team in Germany. That's why I wanted to join them," he explained. "I want to celebrate both personal and team successes with the club."
Relaxed about training
Sporting director Christian Nerlinger was pleased to have finally wrapped things up: "We're delighted to have signed one of the world's best goalkeepers in Manuel Neuer and we're looking forward to a long and successful cooperation with him."
Neuer, who returned to Germany following a trio of fixtures with the German national side, will spend the next few weeks recovering from a long hard season, though he refused to reveal details of where he might be heading: "Somewhere far away, that's for sure." The 25-year-old is however already looking forward to his first training session with his new team-mates on 1 July: "It won't be completely normal because this is all new territory for me."
Tapalovic new goalkeeping coach
Meanwhile Bayern have announced a new addition to their coaching staff with the arrival of Toni Tapalovic as the club's new goalkeeping coach. The 31-year-old Croatian has signed a two-year deal and will work closely with both Manuel Neuer and Jörg Butt.
"Toni is from Gelsenkirchen like me so we know each other from our time together at Schalke 04. I'm sure I'll continue my development under him," said Neuer. Head coach Jupp Heynckes added: "I'm looking forward to working with a young and dynamic goalkeeping coach. Toni impressed me with both his character and knowledge during our discussions."
