Elemental abundances

...in my playlist:
  • Hydrogen: 1
  • Carbon: 0 1
  • Oxygen: 1
  • Neon: 3 4
  • Nickel: 0 1
  • Silver: 4 6
  • Gold: 7
Huh. I was expecting more.

There do seem to be one or two surprising omissions.

...although if I include more than just titles, I can add to the list one carbon, one nickel, two silver, and eleven neon. But that kinda feels like cheating.

I would say it's fair to count things other titles if you count types and not tokens (e.g. the Neon Genesis Evanglion OST would only count once).

Also, are you only counting exact matches or forms like golden, as well. I assume forms like Goldberg are right out.

And out of curiosity, is that lone hydrogen eternally anxious?

Type-counting sounds like a good idea.

All of the occurrences recorded in the original tally are "pure". I would be tempted to include "and then some" matches (e.g., Silverman) if they brought in some more exotic elements, but it looks like that only inflates the silver tally. Forms more like Sting are not even considered.

But would this count for "carbon"? With it incomplete, and possibly in a chemical compound, I'm leaning toward no.

And yes, that hydrogen is rather anxious indeed.

Also, diamond totally counts as carbon.
