While Rob was home he was talking to his old boss and somehow they got to talking about real estate. Rob mentioned that he didn't know how we'd ever afford to buy back home with the way prices are. Well, his boss mentioned that he had a house (which we knew about, he lives in a nice house on the water...this was a rental property) that he had for sale by owner and he wasn't in a hurry to sell it so he had it priced pretty high just to see what he got. Rob and him are really close and he told Rob that if we were interested he would sell it to us at a great price. We got on this website that he had it listed on to take a look. It's about 20 min away from our town and on a wooded lot. The house is about 10 years old and not really our style but its 3 bedroom, 2 bath with a finished bonus room over the garace...but only a one car garage. It also needs a lot of updating but it was really taken care of. He rented it out to the same people for 10 years, when they decided to move he and his wife knew they'd never had renters like that again and decided to just sell it.
So, last night Rob was looking at that site and called me to find out how to look in other areas...he wanted to check out Morehead, NC. Well he couldn't find anything so I took the reins and we sat on the couch with the computer and I started showing him homes out near Raleigh. He also fell out of the couch when we saw all the brand new homes that you can buy for 165k-200k which would cost us upwards of 700k right now in our hometown. We kinda talked a little bit about it and he said things like, "If I stayed with xxx(current job) living there would work out better for flying back and forth cause we'd be so close to the airport and I'm sure there would be more jobs for you". I told him that as much as I wanted to move home I just couldn't justify spending that much money for our first house, since we don't have that much to spend anyway. Also, its hard to find rental homes because everything is seasonal since its a vacation town and what you can find is astronomical for a small place that usually doesn't allow pets. I'm excited and really hoping Rob puts some serious thought into what we looked at last night. Even if we are out in Raleigh renting somewhere for a little bit.....
