So I guess safety is still a little shaky here in Antigua. My teacher says about a month ago there was a string of robberies and assaults and there were a lot of demonstrations in town demanding more security from the police, who sent a few more people around to put up these damn signs that are everywhere saying "la antigua EXIGE seguridad" or Antigua DEMANDS security. But the police themselves don't really do anything. In fact, they're almost as dangerous. My teacher says about a month ago she had a student from Germany who got stopped by the police asking for his papers, and then they took all his money. Sweet. When I walk home alone every night it's safe right up to la merced, but past that there is literally nobody on the streets at all, ever, and it's really dark.
I have been eating so much food. Working out every day at the gym has literally doubled my appetite. The only time I have been truly full was last night, when my family had a going away dinner for the other ex-student in my house. We had lots of steak, lots of chorizo, and lots of potatoes. And lots of nachoes. And beer and whisky. It was a grand old time. The food in my family is amazing, I'm very lucky to have a family that doesn't just hand me a plate of frijoles every meal.
