The last week I have been going on little tours of various ruins of churches in Antigua. Most of these were destroyed by the massive earthquakes in the late 1700s when Antigua was pretty much destroyed and they moved the capital to Guatemala City. There are far too many pictures to post but here are some of the cooler ones.
Inside the ruined portion of La Merced, the big yellow church near my family.
Santa Clara.
Teachers have to wear uniforms that change according to what day of the week it was. This day, my teacher was sporting the Thursday black and reds. Friday is actually, surprisingly enough, "casual Friday."
Must have been a pretty cool roof.
San Francisco.
Safety comes first in Guatemala! I walked around.
There was a room full of letters and plaques giving thanks to the saint of this church. I missed taking a photo of the walls full of eyeglasses, crutches, and various other implements indicative of disability shed with thanks given to miracles of this saint.
