Katie and I had the great fortune of seeing John Kerry while he was hear in Jacksonville. Yesterday, Katie picked up two tickets at school while they were being handed out. Senator Kerry spoke on several issues while focusing on health care. I took some great photos, I'll have to post them after I get them scanned in. I am really surprised by how easy going Kerry is. His manner of speech and his attitude were very personable and agreeable. The images of Kerry portraying him as aloof, detached, or stiff are incredibly inaccurate. Katie and I were already going to vote for him, but this solidified Kerry as our candidate and gave us personal material to speak about when discussing Kerry with others. I have no doubt that Kerry will make an excellent president, a president that this country will be proud of.
Afterward, I trotted over to my art class. I had to use lines in an 18"x18" composition to represent the word "soft". I was finished several days ago, and my piece was critiqued tonight. The only negative comment was that one element, a series of spirals using lines varying back and forth from thick to thin, ventured away from the idea of "soft". I partially agreed, seeing the element more as "elegant" (a word assigned to some others in class), but the effect still worked well in keeping my piece an interesting composition without compromising the main idea. I earned an A+ and Katie wants the piece back for framing. I also started working on our next project, which involves using black and white shapes in two compositions, one symmetrical and one asymmetrical. My pieces will look like gears, and I'm excited about how they will turn out.
The time for sleep is upon me.
