Elijah hadn't spoken to Klaus. Perhaps he should have, to at least...discuss the situation, but he'd be damned if he was going to come across as asking for permission. He did speak to his staff and made sure the house was aired out and the kitchen stocked with food for Elena and blood for his vampire and hybrid guests.
He wasn't sure how that was going to go, given Caroline's...interruption, and having one of Klaus's hybrids--even if no longer bound--around made him vaguely uneasy, but he'd made the offer as a show of good faith, and he intended to keep it. This time.
Telling the staff how many guest rooms to prepare had given him pause, but he hadn't wanted to assume. In all likelihood, Caroline had convinced Elena what a very bad idea this was. If not...well. She could still have her own space, if she wanted.
On the appointed Wednesday, he showed up at their hotel with his car, and sent a message up that he'd arrived.
Unlike if they went to Germany, this would be a far shorter drive. It could be...a test run of sorts.
And he was praying to whomever heard the entreaties of things like him that it would go well.
