Recovery Journal #10

Over the next three days, most of my focus was on getting into a groove and lowering the amount of pain and painkillers. I was trying to make sure that I would be able to get off the prescription narcotics by the weekend - also to see if I would need to request more if that did not work out.
I ate well - very healthy - and did a lot of things to rest. By Friday, I did two important things that affected my overall recovery. I went down to zero narcotics in the morning and I was able to stay that way through the day with the use of tylenol and advil. Just as important, I caught a ride to my regular physician for a regularly scheduled doctor's appointment. By being able to see my doctor, I was able to check to see how well my other medical issues are progressing. Things were moving in the right direction.
By Friday evening, after being off the narcotics for over 24 hours, I was able to start driving again. We went to eat a late dinner at Like Like Drive Inn. Since my dormant foot was the left foot, it is not bad driving. The next morning - we hit Marukai. It was a little difficult going through the store because I was still on crutches and the store was filled with its usual large amount of people. Driving around for the first time since my surgery gave me back a sense of freedom. By Saturday afternoon, I moved from walking on two crutches to walking with one crutch. It appeared that I was moving up in my recovery. On Sunday, I did my usual pre-back problem schedule by going to lunch with relatives and shopping. The strange thing is that I felt really good being able to do my normal weekend schedule.
At dinner on Sunday evening, I prepared for my final week on "vacation" by planning by my Monday and my week. Moving forward is extremely important to me and this was one of the best ways for me to do just that.
