Thus Spoke Zarathustra

My junior year of college was full of memories with my housemates, and one major memory was our experience with the Xenosaga game franchise. Much fun was had as my housemates watched me play (as they did not have the patience to play themselves, perhaps with good reason) the first two episodes of the game and laughed at all the plot idiosyncrasies. Unfortunately, Episode III was not released until after we all graduated and went our separate ways.

At first I had thought about just waiting until the inevitable price drop before picking up Episode III. But when I found out that EBGames was giving away art books (which unfortunately I couldn't get) and Best Buy had an exclusive holographic cover, I couldn't resist.

But then grad school came along, and so for a while I didn't play. But then came the summer, and now I've finally finished the saga.

Both the gameplay and the plot of Episode III disappointed me somewhat. The game as a whole felt rushed to me. A lot of people liked the battle system more this time, but to me it got repetitive after a while, even though they've brought back shops and equipment. But now I can finally rest, knowing what has happened to Shion, KOS-MOS, and everyone else. And of course getting the chance to finally play as Allen was a treat, even if his time as a playable character was short.

Of course, perhaps Allen's greatest shining moment is here (spoilers, obvi). Yes, I realize that they're all in swimsuits (you can replay cutscenes, with the option of having all the characters in their swimsuits), but this was the only English video I could find with this scene.

Kevin, Shions old boyfriend, is the Red Testament. Kevin is trying to take Shion back with him, even though the others are against it. And Kevin is calling KOS-MOS Mary because KOS-MOS holds the will of Mary Magdalene (Yes, THAT Mary Magdalene. OMG THEY COPIED THE DA VINCI CODE!!1).

I had thought about doing a brief plot summary, but even I don't fully understand what happened (even though there is the Database, a very useful feature that was unfortunately omitted from Episode II). Videos of the FMV sequences are on YouTube, and you can find the Game Script on GameFAQs.
