Chapter Six: An Unlikely Guest (1)

Jun 01, 2010 01:00

[Because I almost killed LJ with the size of this chapter, I'm posting it in two parts.]

*~*~*~*

Alice is Beautiful.

Tarrant watches her as they all muddle through this dire and frightening time. He brushes his fingertips over her knee, unable to resist touching her despite the gravity of the queen’s lecture on basic healing arts. He can’t stop ( Read more... )

I'M NOT DONE READING THIS PART OF THE CHAPTER YET, AND I'M FORCED TO START REVIEWING NOW SO I DON'T FORGET WHAT I WANT TO SAY.

You? Own my soul. What little bit of it that isn't in smoking tatters and having a smoke with Lucifer, that is. ;)

Tarrant fears he’ll have nightmares about that sound-and-then-silence. *shudders* Oh, heavens to betsy. Poor Tarrant - I know that sound. (Dislocated my shoulder twice - and my hip several times - and my toes very often. Clumsy, me.) The way you worded that was striking.

WAIT FORGOT - the kiss? HI, HOW ARE YOU, I'M DED. It was so...powerful. Like, you could feel what Tarrant was feeling, how desperate he was, how afraid ( ... )

*is blown away by your reaction*

DUDE! I HAD TO, LIKE, CRAWL MY WAY BACK TO MY LAPTOP AFTER THAT HURRICANE-TYPE COMMENT BLEW THROUGH HERE! O.M.G. (O_o)!!

Of course, I'm thrilled that you like it and I'm also a bit worried about you what with all the craziness going on in your life (and your family/friends' lives) at the moment and I know fan fic isn't much but if it keeps you sane, then I'm SO GLAD I can be of *some* assistence.

As for "OFF-NESS"... The thing I'm most worried about in these coming chapters is Alice and Tarrant's priorities. I mean SO MUCH is happening now and I'm trying to keep it all straight in my head (and in THEIR heads and I've never been good at juggling, dammit!) and I just want to make sure they don't suddenly *stop* thinking about something that ought to be at the forefront of their minds in favor of something else. Gah. I hope that made sense.

Take care of yourself, Callista-bear. And I really hope you enjoy the rest of the chapter (and Chapter Seven, too)!

Sorry, I get a bit...excited. xD I'll try to tone myself down. ;)

We're doing better, things will get better, and I should hope something like last night won't happen again. And good stories have always been an escape for me - it's easy to forget what else is going on when you crawl into another world, another life. And yes, OPK certainly allowed that last nght.

It makes total sense. At this moment it seems they've got all their ducks in a row - but later on, if something does seem Off to my eyes, I'll let you know. Balancing all those things at once is bound to be maddening.

Okay, LOVE the explanation for the earthquake...it was so simple, and yet so NOT. A giant hole forming from Up to Under WOULD create quite a shaking!

Princess Avenana is back! I don't know why, but I rather liked her in Book 2, even though she had a very minor part and it was mostly snarky. From what you described of her so far I think she'd make a good foil for Alice...

Can I just say I love that you brought a firearm into Underland? ;D That's something I was a bit...well, I don't want to say surprised, really, because it was supposed to be a kid's movie, but...surprised will have to do, I guess. I was a bit Surprised that there were not very many 'modern' elements to Underland (modern for Alice's time period, that is) like there were in the novels, such as trains or firearms...but yet they included a phonograph at the tea party? *is puzzled*

Really liking Bayne's sarcasm and Leif's reactions to it in this section as well...they have the possibility for a great dynamic!

LOL! Yes, I remembered your comments about Avenana from Book 2 and decided to bring her back. I can't say if she'll have much of a role later on, because Gah! how many OCs am I juggling already?!?!? Jeez.

And Bayne has turned into quite the snark-pot, hasn't he?

If I can insert myself into your observation for a moment...

You're right that there are 'modern' technologies in _Wonderland_ and _Through the Looking Glass_ that are largely absent from Burton's film. An interesting creative decision, I suppose. However, in addition to the phonograph playing at the tea party, Hatter also mentions rail travel to Alice in regards to traveling by hat being superior. We don't see any trains, the way we do in _Through the Looking Glass_, but I imagine they have them nonetheless? Since Hatter mentions them?

Dunno...that's a point I noticed in addition to the phonograph and never had a chance to mention it to anyone.

Yeah, I noticed that too...although it didn't bother me nearly as much as the phonograph! Because for the timeline the movie supposively takes place in, the phonograph hadn't even been invented in that form yet. I suppose we can attribute it to Time being strange there, but...

First, a quick typo. At the very beginning, instead of "dining hall" you have "dinning" hall.

Fascinating chapter! Rescue, love, worry, mystery, another mystery, and further mystery to unfold! Sooo...Oyshter is found but Valereth is not. Hmmm...where could he be? London perhaps? I guess I'll have to read on and see!

Well, at least we know what the "Earthquake" was! The return of bad news...

Wonderful chapter. Well, half a chapter, anyway! :) I love Leif's thought of a "wedding present" for Alice and Tarrant, and his thinking "afternoon ship of madness." Priceless! Tragedy and humour are both here. All I can say is I love it so far!

OK, typo has been de-typo'd! Thanks!

I'm glad the story is still unfolding well. Yeah, I love the concept of the villain-as-wedding-gift! Not only is it FUNNY, but it's obvious that Leif doesn't have any romantic feelings for Alice anymore and he realizes that she and the Hatter are Together now. I like that implied acceptance very much! (^__~)

The throne room hole is tres interesting. Will they need to try to close the darn thing? I can't imagine they'll want what's coming through. And a gun that Alice knows how to work. Hmm...so much mystery unfolding.

Love their wedding gift, love the kiss, love that this is a two part-er.

This particular chapter ended up being over 8,000 words which must be the limit for LJ. Poor site. I totally gimped it when I was trying to post this as one entry.

Not saying much about the hole from Upland. Don't want to ruin any future chapters for you!

What I especially liked about the "wedding gift" was that when Leif told me to put that in the story, I realized he had truly come to terms with Alice and the Hatter's relationship and even supports it, in a way. It was nice to see after that dumb move of his in Book 2. (Which surprised a lot of people. I was actually a little shocked that they were surprised! Leif is a Hero. Alice, according to his way of thinking, needs Rescuing from the Mad Hatter. Etc. Etc.)
