I think I need to take a page out of
schnookiemuffin 's book and at least start posting a weekly update. I feel like I've gotten out of the habit of posting here. And if I do post here it's just a quick "here's a link to my food blog" and I'm out. I haven't been keeping up with my friend's posts very well either. I feel like my days are pretty much taken by working out and cooking. Which is cool, but I need to not forget about all the other great things in life.
What have I been up to this week? Well, I went to my second Course 2 cake class on Monday (today is day 3 of the 4 class course). I'm glad I'm taking the course and I'm having fun with it but it will pretty much be obsolete after this month because they are re-vamping the courses. Now, instead of 4 courses there will be 3. I was told that even if I retake the first Course I'll still learn new stuff. We'll see. I would love to take another course next month but O has a lot going on next month and unless they make the classes on the weekend, I can't do it. Oh well. Maybe in July when some friends of ours come to stay with us. Again, we'll see.
Tuesday we went to a spouse orientation and Lilz proceeded to get all the other kids running around the room. She's like that. I don't think she'll have any problems asserting herself in social situations and making friends. She's a pretty outgoing kid. We want to get her into the daycare program here. At least a couple hours a week so she'll have something more to occupy her time and not be lonely. But again, July we are having some friends come stay with us (with their 2 kids) so that should give her some company for that month.
Anyway. The orientation was okay. They said a lot of stuff I already knew. The Colonel's wife got up and talked about how they have "coffee's" every first Wednesday of the month. I haven't decided if I want to attend these or not. We'll see. It's a potluck thing so that's exciting for me. But I always think I won't fit in with the "wives." I did meet a couple of O's classmates and one girl seems pretty neat. We'll try inviting a few of them over sometime and see how it goes.
On Saturday we had an old friend and the Polish guy O is sponsoring in his class over for dinner. I made New England pot roast...because what says "America" like pot roast?? I also made these chocolate chip cookie bar things that are the texture of brownies. They were pretty amazing. Erica and the Polish guy seemed pretty happy and full by the end of the night. I also got Erica to sign up for Shoedazzle and we started talking about cakes and I showed her some of the ones I've done. She got engaged a few months ago and she asked me if I would do her wedding cake next fall. That is such a huge honor and I would love to do it but we'll see if it happens. That's a long way out and people say things and sometimes don't follow through or don't really mean it ya know...
I got my Daring Cooks challenge and at first I wasn't thrilled but now I'm totally excited about it. I will be posting that on the 14th of June so keep a look out for it. I have to keep it very hush hush and not leak it so you guys don't get to know what it is yet!
I've also been doing a lot of thinking and researching and gathering ideas for a special goody box for a friend's upcoming birthday bash. If all my ideas pan out it should be pretty awesome. We'll see. I have a ton of ideas but I don't know if it will transfer from my head to the real thing like I want it to. Again...we'll see.
Our bedroom furniture was delivered on Thursday and it's so nice to be sleeping on a real bed instead of a mattress on the floor. And having drawers to put things in...it's amazing! We are planning on going shopping for bedding and stuff out in Springfield this weekend during O's long weekend. Wish us luck!
Oh! We went shopping for groceries and stuff yesterday and decided to check out the PX. I got a big food processor and some cookie sheets! I'm so excited to have cookie sheets again! So now you guys can rest better knowing the world is right again. I love shopping for kitchen stuff. And office supplies. I'm weird that way.
I made it to level 3 of the 30 Day Shred Challenge. I only have a week left until I'm done with that challenge. On one hand I'm ready to be done. On the other hand, I think it will be really weird to take a day off.
I think I need to start writing in my paper journal at night again. There are too many nights where I lay there for hours with my mind spinning and I just can't get it to shut up. I also need to focus on reading. I don't seem to have time to read anymore. I want to finish the Hemingway (I can never remember what I'm reading) within the month of May. I don't think O is going to finish the Michener. But that's okay.
I guess that's it for now. Not too shabby for a week in review. At the least I would like to do this.
