I feel like I haven't been on LJ in about a million years. I've been sitting here for a few hours trying to go through my 'friends' page and there are just way too many posts so I'm giving up. Sorry if I've missed something important. If I have, just let me know.
We are finally in El Paso and have been 'settled' for about a week. I've gained a few pounds over the course of all the traveling, crappy eating, and essentially no exercising. But, it's for a good cause so I'm okay with it. I WILL NOT allow myself to get fat again.
I have to say I've had the most amazing time visiting with everyone. We got to see everyone on our list and a few we didn't know about. I miss all our peeps. This was one of the most amazing trips we've been on. I feel like since I'm more comfortable with myself I can BE myself around the people I've 'known' for years.
This trip also made O realize how much he misses everyone and he's considering Ft. Hood again. He actually keeps talking about how we would have to rent a house in Taylor, TX if we got stationed at Hood. LOL! He definitely fell in love with that little town...and of course the people there help make that decision. We'll see what happens. We have to get to Ft. Leonard Wood first. Soon.
O leaves on Sunday. I'm not that happy about it. We are getting back to being us and I love the time we've been able to spend together. He and Lily have formed a pretty solid relationship too and I'm not sure how she's going to react when he's gone again. I'm actually going to go visit him for a week in March but Lilz will stay here with her grandma.
I did my 5k on Sunday!! We did the Race for the Cure. I did a walk/run thing and finished the race in about 37 minutes. Not awesome, but not horrible either. O finished in about 23 minutes. He was in the top 20 of the non-competitive runners. I'm so proud of us for doing it. It felt amazing and I can't wait for the next one! I'm actually going to knit us some fuzzy hot pink scarves so we can wear them next year!
O and I were looking through apartment options in MO earlier today. Seeing the pix of the kitchens made me pretty antsy. I can't wait to have my own kitchen again. I've taken over a lot of the cooking here at my in-laws house. I've made them omelets and amazing sandwiches (or Tamwiches). Last night my FIL threw some steaks on the grill and I made some olive oil and rosemary potatoes and some szechuan green beans to go along with it. It was amazing. I've also made my baked rigatoni since coming here. Going through my friends page has made me itchy to bake something though. There's just something so therapeutic about being in the kitchen...at least to me there is. O went to get my car inspected so maybe when he gets back we can go to Michael's and/or Bed, Bath & Beyond to look at baking stuff. We have plans to go to Hooter's tonight so no cooking for me tonight. Sad.
I finally finished My Life in France, read a book called John Dies at the End by David Wong, and am now reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I was supposed to be doing a 60 book challenge this year but broke it to my partner yesterday that I'm probably not going to make it. I'm reading for quality this year, not quantity. I really need to start writing reviews again. I keep thinking about it but I never do it. I also need to edit the first chapter of a friend's novel that she sent me. This makes me consider editing as a profession again. I figure before I decide on anything I need to get somewhere stable and talk to an enrollment counselor to see what my options are and what I need to do for each profession.
Also, when I get settled I'm planning on doing the 30 day shred challenge. I will probably start sometime in April and I plan to actually do the DVD for 30 days straight. I'm giving you all enough time to prepare...who's going to do it with me? We will have to stay on each others butts and post about our efforts, etc, etc. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller??
I'm currently searching for a tiramisu cheesecake recipe. If anyone has any leads...let me know please.
I'm loving the weather here in TX. I don't want to go anywhere cold. I also think O and I need to make a Hawaii trip a priority in the next year or so. Unfortunately, he will be in school this year so maybe next year we can go. We'll see. That will give me time to get bikini ready anyway.
Well that's it for me. I'll try to post more later and more often than I have been.
