Homecoming 2009

Otty's home! I'm super excited that he's here even though he's already gotten on my nerves at least once today. LOL! No but really...it's so good to have him here.

We tried to have an early night last night but ended up staying up until 11pm then it took me about another hour to get to sleep. So when the alarm rang at 4am I was not extremely happy. But I started going through my texts and I saw one from "hubble" and I got excited. He was on the ground and it was time for me to get moving.

I hopped up and got ready. No, I didn't look like I walked out of Slutsville as many women do for these homecoming ceremonies. Lily was pretty pissed when I woke her up to get her dressed and she sure let me know it. LOL! In the end we were ready, out the door, and at the gym with plenty of time to spare. We sat down and started playing and I started taking pictures.

As we waited Lily was extremely interested in the band. We were just across the way from them. She was waving the little flag they gave her when we walked in and she was dancing to the music.

I was looking around and saw one of the military guys being interviewed by a reporter and I momentarily wondered how I would respond if a reporter wanted to interview me. Not even five minutes later, a reporter from some Syracuse paper came up to me, introduced himself and asked if I would mind if he took pictures of me and Lily while we waited. Unfortunately when he asked me what we were feeling about the reunion I stupidly said "besides tired? We're really excited" so I don't think my name is going to be in any paper with a lame-O quote like that. Oh well.

Soon the soldiers came out and the short ceremony was underway. We gave a big round of applause to our returning heroes, the big wig said a prayer, they sang a couple songs, said a few words of thanks and encouragement, and sent the guys on their way. Otty found his way over to us and I sent Lily running into his arms (unfortunately I didn't think to take her bag of goldfish from her).

The two of them have been relatively inseparable all day. They are so cute! We came back to the room and they opened presents together. They watched movies together. Every time we've gotten in and out of the car daddy has gotten Lily out of her seat. They even crashed out for a while earlier (together).

Even now, they are watching Cars and playing with Lily's friends while I'm typing this. They are too cute!

For some 'me' news...I made my goal of 50 books in a year and I finished the James Michener book!! It was actually very interesting but is what I have deemed a 'man book'. I did enjoy it though and have realized that I keep thinking about it and referencing it. Since this was his memoir, I'm definitely interested in reading some of his novels. I've been wanting to read up on Texas history since going to the Alamo in September so I'm thinking his Texas might be the place for me to start. I can't wait to go to Barnes & Noble tomorrow to look for a new book. I brought some with me but I really want to read something in the "writings on food" genre and I didn't bring any of those with me. That's all for me tonight. I hope everyone had a great Christmas!
