"Oh little monsters, you make me feel so happy I could die."

I didn't really say anything about seeing Lady GaGa on Tuesday. I can't think of much that I didn't say the first time around. She's completely changed The Monster Ball and restructured it as a musical with a plot (Little Shop meets The Wizard of Oz with obvious Taboo-ness); my feelings about it are pretty much the same. Some parts were better the first time, like the audience, and "Dance in the Dark" (she barely dances now, whereas in the Monster Ball 1.0, she did an entire solo dance wearing a bodysuit made of LED lights and it was truly something to behold--possibly my favorite part of the entire show). This time she has a lot of flashy elements (giant anglerfish devouring her, exploding bra, car piano), but my favorite part would have to be "So Happy I Could Die." She performs it on an elevated platform wearing The Living Dress. It's all very Glinda the Good Witch, but not camp at all. It's exquisitely beautiful and really sad. I don't know why that song is so sad to me. Melodically, there's a definite melancholy to it. People call it a sequel to "Just Dance" and say it's just about getting drunk, or the dark side to drinking, but there's also all that lesbian imagery and narcissism. The most striking verse has always been:
I am as vain as I allow
I do my hair, I gloss my eyes
I touch myself all through the night
And when something falls out of place
I take my time, I put it back
I touch myself 'til I'm on track

I really teared up. It's been an emotional week, but I also was really moved by how moved GaGa was. She started crying a few times, overwhelmed by the fact that she was performing at Madison Square Garden. She mentioned that she sat in the nosebleeds and thought "I'm going to be up there someday." I know everyone says that, but she's really from New York. And she really is "the most delusional bitch in the world." And that inspires me, since I'm all about faking it until I make it.
