"Nobody is talking about extermination."

"No one ever talks about it. They just do it. And you go on with your lives, ignoring the signs all around you. And then, one day, when the air is still and the night has fallen, they come for you. It's only then that you realize, while you were talking about organizing and committees, the extermination has already begun."

Things seemed to be settling down for Erik for the first time in his life. A number of individuals in the City were quite preoccupied with ensuring that he did not turn into a supervillain, and it seemed that their efforts might actually work. He and Charles moved into a house in the suburbs together, Charles was teaching at the Institute, and Erik was bonding with his new-found family members.

But from day 0 of the government crackdown on metahumans, Erik and Charles had targets on their backs. Before the government made their intentions known, they wanted to ensure that they had a general idea of which imPorts were likely to cause problems. And with the number of people in the City who knew versions of Xavier and Magneto from their own world, it was considerably easy for the government to find out that they should be keeping an eye on them. Not just for being powerful, but because they were leaders in their own worlds. The last thing the government needed was for the two of them to rally the imPort community into a united resistance effort.

The moment they stepped a toe out of line, the government was ready. As soon as Erik publicly voiced his rage against the registration process, with Charles at his side in a simultaneous effort to support him and prevent him from becoming too worked up in his anger, a special task force was prepared to apprehend them both. It was not easy by any means, but enough preparation had gone into the effort that the two of them were eventually successfully detained. They were both locked away in high-security detention facilities. This was considered quite the success, as it not only prevented them from causing any trouble for the registration efforts, but it was also hoped to be a deterrent for other metahumans by seeing Professor X and Magneto being locked away.

For years, the two remained imprisoned. Erik's rage only grew as he found himself persecuted and locked away for the second time in his life, simply for being born as he was. His mistrust of governments and hatred of humans only grew during this time.

If anything, Charles was only affected even worse by his years in confinement. He had always held such optimism for the world's future, which had suddenly taken a bleak turn. Deep down, he had always feared that Erik's paranoia about humankind's reaction to metahumans could indeed come to pass, but he had never wanted to believe it. As the years passed, news trickled in about the other imPorts and their fates, causing him a despair deeper than his own imprisonment ever could.

Erik was fiercely determined not to let his life waste away in such a manner. Eventually the opportunity presented himself after years of careful planning and he escaped. The first order of business, of course, was locating Charles, who had intentionally been put in a separate facility far away from the one Erik occupied. He had to go through several government officials first, but soon Erik learned the location at which Charles was being held. He successfully freed Charles, leaving only a pile of rubble where the building once stood. The only witnesses left behind who were not dead had their minds wiped with frightening efficiency.

The government was afraid to admit that they had not only allowed the two to escape, but had no idea where they were currently located. That did not stop rumors from beginning to make their way through the scattered imPort community-- particularly when another government building was destroyed, having collapsed from within when everything from its support beams to then nails holding the furniture together gave way, and when several government officials were found in near-catatonic states from the sheer level of their memories being wiped.

For a while, Erik and Charles went into hiding. It was incredibly easy for them, given Charles' abilities to conceal their presence from the minds of others and erase memories should anyone happen to recognize them. They settled into a new house in New England as they learned as much as they could about what had happened in the years that they were imprisoned.

But neither was content to simply sit by as the other imPorts were discriminated against, many of them forced into hiding or imprisonment. They began work on a new Cerebro to locate the many metahumans who had effectively fallen off the map. The first order of business was to locate and attempt to contact their friends and family. They found an ally in Black Bolt, and invited Angelica to come live with them when it became obvious that she was in need of support.

The second order of business is to gain followers. Metahumans do not deserve to be persecuted, and change needs to take place. If the government refuses to change its policies, perhaps a new haven for metahumans can be formed-- a place where they do not need to hide themselves, where they can live openly among their kind without fear of their own government acting against them. The question now is where this will be, who will join them, and how they will make it happen.
