Little India

This Monday in Little India...

I got into a cab to Little India around 9 AM. Planned to have breakfast there itself. Had the Singapore map with me (on which the soft-spoken city tour lady had marked Hilton and nearby shopping malls that were around 10-20 minutes on foot), and I kept tracking which route the cab went by. The map helped me identify buildings with names on the sheet.

The route from Orchard Road (that's where Hilton is) to Little India is pretty straightfoward. Go straight (to the right of Hilton) until you find a big fork towards the left. There's the Park Mall on your right just before this fork. Take the left and go straight. Reached Little India in around 10-15 minutes (took this much time because there are too many traffic signals on Orchard Road).

Just on the crossing before Little India area, I spotted a couple of 'Pure Vegetarian' restaurants. That was a nice thing to find, since now I had something to come back to, if I didn't find any interesting meal joints in Little India.

There's the Little India Arcade on the right. This, and the adjacent buildings host shops with Indian clothes,
soveneurs, jwellery, and food.

Talking about food, here's Dosa Corner.

On the left, there's this building with a Indian food court. While walking up the stairs, I saw people having their morning tea/coffee. Indians, and all of them seemed to hail from Southern parts of India (which is not surprising, given the demographics of Singapore). Once near the food stalls, the first thing that caught my eye was a stall loudly advertising 'Sweet Lassi, Mango Lassi'. Okay, so I was at the right place. Moving ahead, there were many shops with 'Muslim food'. Now what's 'Muslim food'? The first couple of shops didn't list out the menu. The next few did, and it turned out be Chicken/Mutton meals.

I scanned all the shops banners, had lime juice from one of the shops, and went back to one of 'Vegetarian' restaurants. Wanted to try out some 'North Indian' meal here. Fortunately, the second item on their menu was 'Poori Chhole'. Yay. So it was Poori, Chhole and Aaloos for the breakfast.

I went back to the Little India food court, and tried the Salt Lassi there. It took them around 5 minutes to place it on my table, hey, it was good!

After roaming around for a while, I decided to walk back to Orchard Road. Map helped. :-)

Liked the color of these apartments, opposite to the restaurants.

Miscellany...

A tour bus I didn't take. Looks good from outside though.

P.S. LJ-cuts? oops. ;-)
