Shooting and Cici's trip before I forget them both

Today was darn good. Woke up, went to church, had lunch (and a 5-minute argument as to whether or not chili is chili if there are no noodles-you don't need noodles in chili!), then I went with Tim and Kody to the suburbs near exit 22 and started shooting for my DVP (digital video production) project. We go through the shot-sheet and feel that it's more necessary to screw around with the instructions than to be serious, and I'm still pretty sure about that. Humor=creativity=good grade (assuming I don't flub the technical parts). We return to my house to finish shooting the indoor stuff and about three shots in, the camera stops working. The battery still has life, I even plugged it into the wall-powered adapter to rule that out as a problem. It just ceased to record. So I call Steve White (BCOM guru) who dishes me off to Sean Thomas (DVP prof) who tells me he has no clue. Just bring it in tomorrow (at 7 am) and see if anything can be done about it.

So I drop Tim and Kody off at the dorms and head back home to watch Simpsons and Seinfeld and Family Guy and American Dad. Seinfeld is about halfway over when Comer comes home and suggests we all go to Cici's. Of course I think that's a brilliant idea and Dwayne agrees, so we go eat at Cici's. I get there, get my plate and put 8 slices on it. I start looking for an open table and I see this girl's eyes get huge when she sees my stack of pizza. So I'm feeling good about how much is on the plate. I end up polishing that off and going back two more times (total: 20 slices and 5 spite rolls). There were some cops that sat about five feet from us. We were of course being stupid and semi-loud because we're idiots. Dwayne goes up to get some pizza and when he comes back he attempts to sit down and completely screws it up somehow. He knocks over the chair and Comer and I start cracking up. All the cops look at him and I can only assume they did it in a suspicious manner. Comer proceeded to make bird calls after they left ("Man, that crow and that owl are fighting....") We leave and are listening to some rap station when "Dirt On Your Shoulder" or whatever it's called comes on. The Black Album is just great overall, by the way. Then they played the new Kanye track when we were pulling back into the driveway. A very enjoyable evening. This might be the first time I've actually written about actual events, or at least with detailed descriptions. But enough of this stuff. Movie reviews:

I Fidanzati-I only got this because it's a Criterion! It was still good though, and insanely short. I think 77 minutes. A couple's love is put to the test when he has to go on an extended business trip. Check it out.

The Year of Living Dangerously-Peter Weir film about journalism! I was immediately prejudiced against this film. Overall, it was a really, really good movie. But there is no way it's better than Fanny and Alexander. I don't know what Ebert was thinking. Probably not as good as The Right Stuff either, but Ebert picked that as the best of '83. This obviously kicks the tail of Terms of Endearment, but if you think Peter Weir is better than Ingmar Bergman that I need to strap you down Clockwork Orange style and make you watch about 10 Bergman masterpieces. Um...but this was still a very good movie. So watch it.

The Last Wave-Peter Weir Criterion! I had no clue what to expect really, and I'm still not 100% sure what happened to be honest. This lawyer is defending some Aborigenees (spelling?) and he stumbles upon their secret rituals which puts his life in danger. And something about real time and dream time and lots of water. I don't know, but it was cool.

Pygmalion-my 141st Criterion! This is the original version of My Fair Lady pretty much sans the musical numbers. I enjoyed it a lot more at least. Half the run-time, an equal if not superior amount of humor, and the professor's cooler in this one. I'd say you should check it out.

As you can see, I'm well on my way to breaking my 150 Criterions by New Year's goal. It's pretty much guarenteed. I asked my Japanese Cinema prof. if I could borrow Criterions that he owned that I haven't seen and he agreed. So I'll be getting Floating Weeds 2-set, The Pornographers, and Branded to Kill (by the director of Fighting Elegy, so I'm pumped about it) and whatever else he may have. Freakin' sweet. Now I must try to get some sleep if that's possible. There's a 3-inch wood beetle running around my house, so I'm kind of hoping that we get this place sprayed soon. Sorry this is so long. Short next time, I promise. Bye.
