Literally. I have a bad throat and a headache and major sniffles. The excitement meant I missed sleep and got myself into this state - the good news is that England and Germany came through. Bad news is that Argentina kicked the crap out of the Cote d'Ivoire to win 2-1. I believe one of their players went for the ball once, but that might have been my imagination.
Sadness comes from another Faux News report claiming there'd been major trouble in Germany. The riot police are *always* around in major urban areas where tens of thousands of fans from different countries gather. Just because your fascist right-wing network can't conceive of a sport that has hundreds of thousands of fans from different nations doesn't mean you have to be scared of it.
Apparently their "report" claimed thousands of riots. Instead it was an ordinary night with around 20 people arrested, and not all English with Germans and Poles also involved. Considering the size, proximity and alcohol, that's a wonderful night. Most likely they spent a night in a cell to sober up and will have learned their lesson.
Blah, stop being afraid of major national sporting events. When rugby achieves a decent status in America, undoubtedly their world cup will be seen as a nightmare by people afraid of change.
People need to grow up and admit that England, while having a few unsavoury folk, contribute as much to the colour and mood than the Swiss, Dutch, Angolans, Swedes or any other group you care to mention.
It says a lot that people just cannot adapt their mindsets to reality. Gives more credence to the argument that there really is no "common sense" or "objective reality", just whatever the hell a person decides to believe they believe, logic be damned.
