Lost Beliefs

Where did the world go so wrong in turning away from good?
Once where loyalty and faith stood, now only cold facts remain
As if the bottom of life were nothing more than a cog or gear
It is ignored and stripped of life to the bare bone of its body
Left out in the cold to stand the elements of time alone
Like a horrible nightmare that will not cease, they continue to grow

They multiple in numbers faster than most can count and anyone can see
As quickly as they are born, they are damned to a life without choices
A life where the decisions made are to someone else’s benefit

The world no longer seeks the good for all, and instead is taken hold of
By all who seek to take advantage of the short time we are given on this world
All we are left to do is watch and wait for our time to come when we must fall

When all the good and bad in our lives is forgotten and another’s will is our own
To the point were we are rendered helpless and trapped amongst our selves
Our thoughts form the walls that keep us in one place and the key…
Is never to be found in this world, but in the next

That is the one thing we can all count on, salvation at the end of it all
Where humanity left us behind to rot and die in a pit filled with others just like us
God will eventually find us and finally take us home to all that we are
Until the day that the clock strikes the hour, we all must wait
Til then we will all just have to hold up our heads and watch in horror

As all that the world is becoming slowly unfolds before us like a painting
Covered in red as the rolled up canvas hits the floor with so much force
To see one brother turn against another in anger to the brink of death
To witness a mother smother her child, telling herself it is not alive
Before it can even gasp for its first breath of life and open its eyes to the world

We will see the end of it all, and see the true face of man as he points and aims
At all the lives that have no clue what is about to come or even why
Shouting and screaming for the fleeing police to come back and help
Pushing our way through the muck that was once life and potential
And still through it all we are expected to keep our hands together and pray
To hold hope and look passed all the greed and corruption of each day

Look passed the false looks, and hide the tears when the fear overwhelms us
Wake up each day and stand to see the sun that as soon as it rises, it sets
When so much darkness consumes just about all the light in our world

The light becomes so dim and with it our dreams follow as well
The only way I can find to look up each day, is with brief glimpses of us
Moments in which those few left in the rubble rise passed the rest
If only for a second, not to show themselves, but to help someone else
To prevent the battle from starting, or the death from arriving

The people who hold the rest of us together as we walk together
Trying to escape all that is dark and consuming our souls ever so slowly
Every once in a while, someone will prove to be the light guiding us forward
Someone will show the way to the sun and to our hopes and dreams
