Josh Hamilton (the Rangers's starting center fielder) participated in this year's Home Run Derby. As most of you know, I am a marginally rabid Rangers fan. I hoped he would have a respectable showing and hit five or six homers (first place, at this point, was eight).

He proceeded to break the record for most home runs in one round with TWENTY EIGHT. Here's the abbreviated video, which runs (this is not a misprint) six minutes and forty-four seconds. I think you need Microsoft Silverlight (their new embedded media player) installed to see the video. It's worth it.

His three longest bombs? 518', 504', 502'. In the first round, he hit around 12,500 feet of homers.

Occasionally, the baseball gods do smile on we impoverished few.
