Well, between the fanwanking over Eleven, which means Oh my God, please shut the hell up, before my brain explodes, I do actually still love Doctor Who, even if I'm regressing to the 60s to find that long lost love. And I haven't been very active, what with the lack of writing and inspiration and so on, and me avoiding all the fanwanking as best as possible. And recovering from JE. So here we go.
1. When did you start watching?
I'm not sure! I believe I first caught glimpse of it during the Christmas season of '06, but I only started really watching after Doomsday.
1a. Why?
Romanadante came to me to see if I could somehow obtain the 2006 Childrens in Need special for her, which I did. I watched it, found it confusing and odd, and that was that until I somehow got interested in it again later, and then did a crazy few nights of watching the '05 and '06 series all the way through.
2. What was your first episode?
Logically? Technically it's the first Children in Need special, but for a real episode, that was probably Rose.
3. Which episodes have you seen?
Most of New Who, barring Evolution of the Daleks, 42 and Lazarus Experiment, I believe. All three of which I'm not particularly keen on catching up on, since I've heard very unenthusiastic reception on all. As for Old Who... it's fairly limited, but I've seen One's first episode, Tomb of the Cybermen (Two), Spearheads from Space (Three), about half of Ambassadors of Death (Three), well... sort of... I don't actually know what happened in it, but I did watch it, with the guy with the glasses. Yeah. Anyway. Terror of the Autons (Three). The following are all Four: Sontaran Experiment (although I don't remember much of it), Genesis of the Daleks (watch this, watch this now), The Brain of Morbius, The Seeds of Doom (DOOM!), Deadly Assassin (Four and a cast of vampires and Mel Gibson!), Some of Robots of Death, some of Talons of Weng-Chang, that is, before I got somewhat offended, thanks. Bits of Ribos Operation, again without much of the audio (Four and Huns!), The Pirate Planet (Mmm... Douglas Adams...), City of Death, and Destiny of the Daleks. I only saw The Five Doctors for Five's era, so lol, not the best impression, even if the Five Doctors is hilarious. I've seen none of Six, none of Seven (Though I'd really like to). So hah. Not completely noob DW fan, but not exactly the most all-knowing.
3a. Favourite?
New Who Series 1: Either Father's Day or Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways.
New Who Series 2: Impossible Planet/Satan's Pit hands down. HANDS DOWN.
New Who Series 3: Human Nature/Family of Blood, with Utopia/Sound of Drums coming fairly close.
New Who Series 4: Midnight. Or Turn Left. If any of you would even think of putting JE here, I will hunt you down and kill you.
Old Who: Genesis of the Daleks and City of Death. I like Pirate Planet, but I don't think it's quite as good as City, and Genesis is just an amazing more serious episode in general.
4. Are your friends/family interested in the show?
Nope. Only outlet is through internet friends.
5. Which Doctor is your favourite?
I would never, ever be able to choose. Ever. It's more of a 'depends on the week' thing.
6. Which Doctor is your least favourite?
... don't even imply such a thing.
7. Which TV companion is your favourite?
HOLY CRAP, I DON'T KNOW, DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY COMPANIONS THERE ARE. I guess Rose. And Donna. And Sarah Jane. And Romana. And Leela. And Susan. I adore Susan. And Jamie. And ACE, of course, how could I nearly forget Ace... So yeah. HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO CHOOSE HERE. (And Turlough is kind of cool too! And Tegan... And Peri...)
8. Which TV companion is your least favourite?
Victoria, from Two's Era. She... screamed. A lot. I think I read somewhere she once saved something by screaming. Yeah.
9. Do you listen to the Big Finish audios?
Hell yes.
9a. If so, which is your favourite?
WELL. WHERE TO START. HOW ABOUT ALL OF THE GALLIFREY AUDIOS. And Zagreus is brilliant, along with most of Eight's era, especially the ones that go with Zagreus, AKA Neverland and Scherzo, with Chimes of Midnight being a brilliant filler, along with Something Inside, Terror Firma (Davros story done right), Memory Lane being a very good more amusing one.
These are all Eight (except the Gallifrey audios), but I haven't listened to most of the other Doctor ones, because... waaay too much. But I plan on getting to them, eventually. Especially some of the Unbound audios. Oh, and I listened to I, Davros series, which was fairly good.
9b. Also: which Big Finish companion is your favourite?
Technically for me, I only get to choose between Charley, C'rizz and Lucie, so ... C'rizz.
10. Have you listened to any non-Big Finish audios?
There are non-Big Finish audios? WHAT THE CRAP, I WANT THOSE NOW. DDD:
11. Have you read any of the novels or short stories?
Only Resurrection Casket. And I guess technically as an E-Book... Human Nature. Oh! I just remembered I read a few Eight ones too.
11a. Have you written any of the novels or short stories?
Nopies.
11b. Which is your favourite?
... I... couldn't say. Maybe Ancestor Cell? Just cause it's interesting.
12. Have you read any of the comics?
No. I'm beginning to think I shouldn't.
13a. Which is your favourite?
The one without Handy!goatee.
14. Is there any particular episode/book/audio/comic you desperately want to watch/listen to/read?
Episode: I want to finish Weng-Chiang, actually... watch a few more One, Two, and Three episodes, particularly ones with Delgado!Master, since I am told he is the massive amazing win. I want to watch some Six and Seven, yes, even the Trial episodes, because anything that has that line about "let's be a court, not a collection of derange psychopaths" (paraphrasing) deserves to be seen.
Book: ... Eh. Frankly, I'm not a huge fan of the books, They're written for children and sometimes it really feels that way. Plus, Lungbarrow might have ruined me for life.
Audios: Most of the Unbound audios, particularly the one where it's One who stayed on Gallifrey, and another one where there's a Doctor who committed suicide and regenerates into a woman. I also... despite the extreme amount of controversy over them, I want to listen to the Master, Davros and Omega audios.
Fandom
1. Do you write fanfic for Doctor Who?
I might.
1a. If so, post a snippet of a work-in-progress (or several)!
A small metal dustbin stood, situated in its own little world, completely undisturbed.
It was not a particularly unusual dustbin, in the typical dustbin standards it was white, the upper half was decorated in a grilled pattern like the floor on which it was sitting, and it had absolutely no comprehensible thought whatsoever. But most importantly, it didn’t move, didn’t watch, didn’t talk. This latter one was somewhat important in the general mish mash of things, as the last time anyone had made a talking dustbin, the harsh criticisms of what you were throwing away made it impossible for anyone to dispose anything. The last talking dustbin now lies in a corner of a cupboard, and is slowly going insane.
The dustbin’s (the one who was write and grilled with no thought whatsoever) only purpose in life (of which it knew) was to stand there and wait for people to throw rubbish in it, a purpose which it was fulfilling nicely. It stood. It waited. The only time when it didn’t wait or stand was when someone was throwing rubbish in it, which, it mused, was quite often, as it was, of course, a dustbin.
The green column next to it generated a low hum.
Ah, here was something unusual. A green column! However, it hardly merited as something of clear interest, as if one were to peer closely at it, the green column itself was only unusual in the sense that green columns in general are not all that common in life, much less a glowing green column, such as this one.
The small screwed up piece of paper flying through the air beside the column was utterly normal for very much of the same reasons. One should be expected to meet a small screwed up piece of paper at least once in their lifetimes, be it yellow, or pink, or an odd shade of navy green, and appropriately prepare themselves for it.
The small screwed up piece of paper missed the edge of the dutifully standing dustbin by a few inches and instead fell through the small gaps of the floor grill, where it joined several of its comrades on the level below.
The Doctor gave a sigh.
2. Do you make Dr/Rose icons?
I do not.
2a. Let's see a sample!
Go away.
3. Recommend a fanfic/icon/fanvid/fancomic/fancreation!
Uhhhhhh.
4. Have you been to any Doctor Who conventions?
I have not!
5. Have you ever dressed up as a Doctor Who character?
Well, I wore a pan on my head and held a whisk and plunger once. So I guess technically I dressed up as a Dalek.
6. Do you own any Doctor Who merchandise?
Not really.
7. Are you a fan of RTD?
I am! Very much. ... Sometimes.
7a. Steven Moffat?
Gone absolutely sour over the man. No. No way.
7b. Paul Cornell?
I love Cornell! Since he wrote two/three of my favourite episodes, I like him very much! I would have preferred him for DW head.
8. What say you to Season 6b?
There's... What's Season 6b?
9. The UNIT dating controversy?
Don't care, Sontaran Strategem was the lulz with the random kiss. And Brig/Liz, people. Brig/Liz. (WHAT. WHAT. >___>)
10. The Blinovitch Limitation effect?
What with Time being so screwed up in Doctor Who, so much so that it implies that Time itself is a sentient enti-SCIENCE AND DOCTOR WHO JUST DON'T GO TOGETHER, OKAY? GOOD NOW.
They want to make up stupid principles that they randomly break few episodes after? Go right ahead.
11. Multi-Doctor episodes?
Not a huge fan. Five Doctors is really fun for the crack, but I think Multi-Doctor should only be done for small mini specials.
12. What's your favourite Doctor Who technobabble?
NOT THE MIIIINNDDD PROOOOBBEEEE.
Or cosmic angst.
I suppose reversing polarity gets an obligatory spot here too.
13. Have you watched other TV shows exclusively because of the presence of Doctor Who actors?
Guilty as charged. I'm even going to dig up Party Animals for Smith.... Eventually. I don't watch anything for Tennant, though, call it my irritating exasperation over fangirls NEVER SHUTTING UP ABOUT HIM.
14. Have you met any of the actors?
I kind of want to hug Piper. But no.
14a. Travelled to any filming locations?
I WENT TO NEW YORK ONCE! ALBEIT... WAAAY BEFORE THEY WENT THERE... so... yeah.
15. What do you think of The Curse of Fatal Death?
I liked it. It was okay, amusing and full of Moffat one-liners, which is the only thing he's good at, really. Besides, I laughed so hard that Richard E. Grant was the Tenth Doctor for that episode, and he did this whole licking mirror thing and was this hilariously sexually excited guy. ... Ten much, anyone? Huh? Huh?
Plus, Master/Doctor at the end. And Master breasts. Yeap. And it had Rowan Atkinson and so on, so yeah... and the Master in it is amazing (I think he should actually play the Master at some point, be Delgado-y!) so yeah. Actually, of all Moffat episodes, the one that isn't part of canon is my favourite. Yeah.
16. Do you have any fannish opinions that you think are fairly unpopular?
Moffat. As in not liking him. I'm so sick of listening to people kiss his bottom and say "OMG LOOK HE'S SO AMAZING" all the freaking time. The fact that Matt Smith is PERFECTLY FINE is also unpopular, it seems. Liking Rose. Hating the end of JE, both Donna and Rose-wise, and liking RTD.
17. What's your favourite pairing?
Doctor/Rose. *sigh*... yeah. I can't really stop that. But I kind of got into Doctor/Master. ... yeeaaaahh. Still, I think Doctor/Master is something... hilarious and awesome.
18. What pairing(s) won't you touch with a really long pole?
I'm not that into Doctor/Martha, but that's only because I can't really see it. And Doctor/River, because I felt it was really, annoyingly... vapid. Doctor/Donna's kind of... odd to me, but I don't mind it that much. Any other pairing I'm probably fine with. ... Or uhhh... Eight/Benny is a bit of a problem I have at the moment, because that damn BOOK WITH THE DOCTOR APPARENTLY MAYBE HAVING SEX WITH HER IS SO NOT CANON AWLKVJWL;EKJFALWKJVLKJ!!!!!
.... Yeah. It's not that I don't like Benny, it's that ... it's just... wtf.
And on that note...
