It's the age that the government/society as a whole decides that an individual is old enough to start making informed decisions for themselves. It varies across the world. Here it's 18!

Age of consent differs in the UK. In the case of homosexual sex, it IS 18, it's only for heterosexual sex that it's 16.

It's not anymore. The law got changed a few years ago now. It's 16 across the board.
