Summer Mix 2005

Aug 16, 2005 12:44

I'm working on a mixed CD (more like it'll be a double CD) of songs that I've been really into this summer: stuff that reminds me of home, songs that relate to certain events, stuff that reminds me of Texas, and stuff that I just generally like a lot.

The Arcade Fire - Wake Up
~First, this band just generally rules, so they have to be on here. I picked this song because it plays right before U2 take the stage on the Vertigo Tour.
U2 - City of Blinding Lights
~This is my favorite track on How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb and is the latest single. But I picked it also because U2 opened with it both nights we saw them live, and it reminds me of all the good times in college as I graduated this year.
Rusted Root - Send Me On My Way
~I've always loved this song; it makes me smile. Also, it's a good traveling theme.
Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire
~Gotta have some Johnny Cash love when you're in Texas. ;)
Willie Nelson - Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys
~Same goes for Willie Nelson (even if he *is* in The Dukes of Hazzard).
Texas - Inner Smile
~Yeah, I know it's corny to have this band in here, but it's a good song.
Sting - Heavy Cloud No Rain
~In honor of the creepy Texas weather patterns.
Matthew Good Band - Antipop
~I've just been really, really digging this song all summer.
Poe - Trigger Happy Jack
~Poe's such an awesome, snarky chick. I sing this to myself all the time.
Cabaret - Don't Tell Mama
~*shrugs* I just sing it all the time now.
Bruce Springsteen - Atlantic City
~Because I miss my Jersey, this is my favorite Bruce song (along with "Jersey Girl"), and I gotta show the pride.
Audioslave - Dandelion
~My favorite track on Out of Exile. It reminds me a lot of Chris's song "Sunshower" from the Great Expectations OST.
David Gray - Say Hello Wave Goodbye
~Just in love with this song. It's about 9 minutes long and just meanders and floats like a warm summer night.
Coldplay (something on X&Y, but I'm not sure which yet)
The Beatles (either "In My Life" or "Sgt. Pepper's" because of Live8)

Plus, the cool neo-New Wave/indie bands (+Arcade Fire) that have exploded this year:
Franz Ferdinand - The Dark of the Matinée
Interpol - Evil
Rilo Kiley - Portions for Foxes
Louis XIV - Finding Out True Love Is Blind
The Caesars - Jerk It Out (because iPod commercials songs are the new black)
Augustana - Stars and Boulevards (if I can find a copy of it)
Songs from Bloc Party, Spoon, the Kaiser Chiefs, and the Bravery, though I'm not sure which yet.

ETA: I *finally* received the ONE wristbands I ordered in the mail today. They are larges, so they should fit everyone (they gave me a small at U2NJ1, which fit, but was a bit snug, and I like that this one is nice and loose). I have nine more if anyone wants. hard2explain8, I know you mentioned wanting me to send you one. Just drop me a line.
