I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. I am cranky for no reason what-so-ever. I have absolutely zero explanation.
So, last night I watched the first two episodes of Lost that
platedveins sent to me (almost DVD quality, no less). It's pretty good so far. I'm not bowled over, but it was much better than most of the crap of TV. Good writing, characters that seem like they could be interesting (so far Kate and Sayid seem the only ones with much complexity, however). I still think Miracles was better, though; that remains the best TV drama pilot I've ever seen. Damn you, ABC. But anyway, I'd be interested in watching more.
Right before I went to bed last night, I listened to Rattle & Hum. The last track on that album is "All I Want Is You". It might have been the stillness of the night or just that I was feeling very quiet, but I was so struck at how haunting and disturbingly beautiful that song is. Every once in a while, I'll listen to a song (even if it's for the millionth time), and be overwhelmed at its awesome power. Last night, I got it with that one.

From
prettypinkkitty - How I Am A Dork
1) U2 - The shear obsessiveness I have for this band is so geeky. I don't think they are inherently dorky in and of themselves (silly and bombastic at times, yes, but not dorky), but the degree to which I love them is very ridiculous. I am currently on another uber-U2 kick - they have been the only band I've listened to since Monday. I have just under 700 U2 related media files on my computer, every album, two posters, two concert shirts, a bumper sticker on my car at home, a tour program, and probably other things as well. I even made my own four disc U2 retrospective.
2) Stargate: SG1 - I think it's safe to say that SG1 is dorky in and of itself, but I adore it. The characters are so fantastic (even if Sam is a bit of a MarySue), the storylines never get old, and it's just...fun! It's the kind of show that encourages you to get really excited and involved in the characters. I love the irreverence (something that most sci-fi shows lack, thus making them a bore) they inject into the show to keep it always so fresh. I got sucked in because you can kind of start anywhere in the series and pick up on the higher plotlines really quickly, but the more you watch, the more you appreciate all the other episodes.
3) Shakespeare - When you read Shakespeare, Shakespeare commentary, and Shakespeare biographies for pleasure, you're a Shakespeare geek. I do all three, plus watch every Shakespeare film I can get my hands on (as well as reading up on Shakespearean film commentary). I've made it a life's goal to read the Complete Works, and I'm currently posting all of the sonnets day by day in
wordslikewind. My daily vernacular is usually peppered with quotations (and not usually just your run-of-the-mill ones, either) and Shakespearean style language (thine, thou, hast, etc.).
4) Film analysis - Every film I watch, I analyze. I cannot help myself at this point. I'm always looking to understand the deeper meaning (whether purposeful or accidental) of lighting, iconography, songs on the soundtrack, visual style, casting choices, and every other little element. To give an example, I recently exclaimed to a group of friends (mostly all non-humanities majors as well) as to the postmodernity of The Great Muppet Caper. I read film criticism in my spare time, comparing my perceptions to those of the writers I read. Robin Wood is one of my personal favorites, introduced to me by Dr. Sharrett.
5) LiveJournal - I love my LJ. I constantly check and update and comment and make new icons in Photoshop. Before Appy got me sucked in, I only really talked to friends on AIM. Now I do any myriad of anti-social blog related activities. And LJ is the gateway drug to online obsessiveness - it gives you news stories, fanfiction, photos, music, video, and friend links that suck you into fandoms. Before LJ, I was not connected to a greater fandom network; now I'm completely enmeshed.
Also, just my very personality is inherently dorky: the things I say, the clothes I wear, the things I like, the people with whom I most identify. My friend even dubbed me The Dork in high school for it. And I wouldn't have it any other way. And I tag all the other people who identify themselves as dorks to do this one. :)
