bouncin' around

in an empty apartment. this place is way too big for one person, especially when that person is used to another person being around. :(

venues:
surfrider: beautiful but totally not private. the grand salon was everything i imagined it to be. behind where the head/sweetheart table would be was this gorgeous view of diamond head framed by palm trees and a big arched french window. but we saw a japanese couple getting married in their outdoor space and people were walking up to the break wall and staring. geez, forgive me if i don't want your nakedness in my wedding pictures.

ihilani @ koolina: beautiful... is our choice, esp. since serendipitously, we ran into the front office manager who proceeded to show us all kinds of suites and reception spaces, and then gave us hints and advice on how to bargain with the catering rep.... until... we were hanging in the presidential suite, quietly considering a small ceremony for 50 on the lanai that practically opened up to the sky with bougainvilleas framing the scene from the railings... we saw a wedding set up in the space next door, the

lanikuhonua (campbell estate): ok. if you really asked me what kind of wedding i wanted... a sunset ceremony with a tented outdoor reception. yes one of each pleas! soft lights, warm breeze, laughter and music carrying through the air... and that's what those folks had going on at lanikuhonua. we got too lazy to go back ewa side for the rest of the week, hence never got to see it up close, but i did give them a call yesterday to inquire about rates and equipment rental.

so, pros, cons, considerations. if we book at surfrider, that's HELLA points for a starwood honeymoon (and we have three hotels to choose from for room blocking). i've been eyeing that greek isle resort on mykonos since ever since. waikiki is central, and people would be close to each other. ihilani is faaaaaaaar, and people would be sorta "stuck" on a [albeit a spa and golf resort according to upcoming branding efforts] resort (which in my humble islander opinion is so NOT the thing to do on an island). although, i did think their room rates would be sky high, but i found out that wedding rates can get really low, even lower than kamaaina rates. maybe we can room everyone in waikiki and bus them to the ceremony? i dunno.... my indecision is the worst, and SI isn't any help (i think he's caught the libra fever).

there are some venues on the windward side, but i am not going to risk rain on our day. if only Ws did weddings...

so going with orchids, calla lilies, and maybe tulips for flowers, and not nailing down colors yet (flowers and colors have to be bold and modern and tropical all at once), i hunted down island paperie on king street, and visited floradec (off nimitz) not twice but thrice in search of orchid anythings. finally found an orchid stamp for some sort of future project at (of all places) long's at ala moana. i also now have a sticker maker, a tag maker, and a whole 7 by 5 tin of island-themed stamps. i am debating whether or not to take a $50 workshop at the beverly hills paper source on diy wedding invites. it'll be fun!

ramblings to keep busy and not get started on the readings for tomorrow morning's class. what kind of prof gives readings out before spring break? what a bummer. boooooooooo.

so uh. i'm going to get started on them now.
