I think the content of this essay if very strong and very personal. It has a good flow consistent with your personality and passion. Having said that, I'm going to focus mostly on grammar. I'm not the best grammarian, but these are changes I'm suggesting you look into. Most deal with the dreaded comma ( ... )

No, not Jamaica. Kingston-upon-Avon near London. Though now I'm hungry for a Jamaican Jerk Chicken sandwich. Yum! Nick Certa is long gone, but I'm sure we'll be see him soon.
