Sucking:
1. 28 hours of travel.
2. On arriving, no bag.
3. The country smells like an armpit.
4. Must pay for internet access, or compete for scarce public computers.
5. Never mind that: laptop died. Must only compete for scarce public computers.
6. Missing the tour AND reception thanks to being here to get my suitcase.
Not Sucking:
1. The Fom head pillow I got for the plane trip.
2. "The Coming Plagues" by Laurie Garrett.
3. Excellent talks at the conference.
4. M calling me the other night. :)
5. Finally getting my suitcase.
6. Lufthansa giving me 4000 Rupees, no questions, when my suitcase wasn't there when I arrived.
7. Food. Lentil curry for breakfast. Indian bread with paneer in it. Butter.
8. Everyone in the hotel is SO nice here. They smile at me, and they're genuinely caring and helpful.
Weird:
Apparently the Indian national cricket team is staying here, as did the Malaysian cricket team and the Australian cricket team. There were about 3 or 4 armed soldiers guarding the lobby on my floor; they had a metal detector set up... I think a big part of it was to protect the famous coach of the cricket team. When you stay in the best hotel in a big city in a foreign country, you are going to run into celebrities: it just makes sense. But you might not really care who they are.
