So I just got back from an intro winter hiking trip this weekend with the mit outing club (MITOC). (The leader for my Sunday hike was Chris Kokko's older brother, Mike! lol) It was sooo much fun, a little cold, but makes me realize that I'm sort of an outdoorsy person at heart. Sure, I like the city. I like the bustle of it, being around people, able to walk to the store/shopping/friends/etc, and the lights at night. But I really wish I could spend a month just living in the wilderness (ok, maybe not in the winter), without mirrors and makeup, without homework and responsibilities, without expectations for the future. Just living, and hiking, and having adventures.
As a note: MITOC kids are nuts. Like crazy in shape, do anything kind of nuts. Some of them have hiked all the presidentials in NH (20 miles, over 9000ft elevation gain) in 1 day, no sleep! They run marathons, run Reach the Beach, go climbing/paddling in the dead of winter, ski down ridiculous mountains (with or without ski runs)....
Sometimes I wish I was crazy in shape like that. If I could run a marathon, I could do anything. But then I go to the gym, run my 3 miles and decide that my body would hate me if I did 23.2 more...
