queens sucks

GAH! I just checked my room assignment, and I've been given a single in Chown...which is an all-girls residence! That is just far too much of an estrogen-overload for my liking, but I've no idea how to change it (or if I'd even want to). My ideal was a single in co-ed, and now I'm all confused as to what would be better. Does the pros of getting ( Read more... )

- generally, i get along with guys a LOT better than girls --> MAYBE THIS IS YOUR TIME TO SHINE WITH GIRLS; REMEMBER THAT AT LEAST HALF OF THOSE GIRLS DON'T WANT TO BE THERE EITHER AND SO PROBABLY SHARE SIMILAR VIEWS AS YOU

- i will be forced to be around stupid catty girl drama ALL THE TIME --> NO NO NO! DON'T GIVE IN! YOU KNOW AS WELL AS I DO THAT STUPID, CATTY DRAMA IS EEEEVERYWHERE, SO DON'T THINK THAT IT WILL BE MORE INTENSE SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU'RE LIVING WTIH GIRLS. IN FACT, IT'LL PROBABLY BE BETTER BECAUSE YOU WON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT EVERYONE ON YOUR FLOOR SLEEPING TOGETHER AND THEN HAVING TO FACE THE DREADED 'MORNING AFTER' CONVERSATIONS...

- don't get to forge the hang-out-around-the-res in pjs, easy quick bond with guys --> THAT'S BS, MY DEAR. I CAN ALMOST GUARANTEE THAT THERE WILL BE GUYS IN YOUR REZ 24/7 (I MEAN, THINK ABOUT IT FROM A GUY'S PERSPECTIVE: AN. ALL. GIRLS. RESIDENCE. ENOUGH SAID.)

- don't get the instant bond you would have if you had a roommate --> UH, INSTANT BOND, MY ASS. DO YOU REALIZE HOW MANY FIGHTS YOU ARE AVOIDING BY LIVING ALONE?! YOU'LL BE LUCKY IF YOU CAN MANAGE TO CARRY ON A CONVERSATION WITH YOUR ROOMATE BY THE END OF THE YEAR, IF YOU WOUND UP WITH ONE.

- worry that girly-ness of residence will overtake me, where as living with guys keeps you more grounded --> NUH-UH. EMBRACE THE GIRLY-NESS, ANYWAY. ITS THE ONLY TIME YOU'LL BE ABLE TO BE A BIT GIRLY AND GET AWAY WITH IT. PLUS, TRUST ME, THERE WILL BE ENOUGH GUYS HANGING AROUND TO NOT PUSH YOUR 'GIRLY' LIMIT

- does all-girls residence mean uber conservative/religious gals who thought it was wrong to live with guys? or ultra jappy/spoiled girls who couldn't handle being around guys without their make-up perfectly done? --> OR PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO WANTED TO LIVE IN A CO-ED REZ BUT GOT STUCK IN AN ALL-GIRLS AND WHO HAVE A LIVEJOURNAL WHO ARE USING IT TO VENT OUT THEIR WORRIES AS WELL?!

- lack of co-edness could mean lack of fun/parties --> OHHHH BABY, THIS IS THE BIGGEST LIE OF ALL. THERE WILL ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS BE PARTIES, ESPECIALLY IN YOUR REZ (ESPECIALLY IN any REZ) AND YOU'LL PROBABLY START TO BE GRATEFUL THAT YOU CAN HAVE A BIT OF PEACE WHEN YOU WALK THE 2 FEET FROM THE PARTY REZ INTO YOUR REZ. TRUST ME, YOU WILL NOT MISS OUT. IN FACT, YOU WILL BE MORE INCLINED TO PARTY IF ITS NOT RIGHT OUTSIDE YOUR DOOR.

all in all, i think you're going to do amazing and make amazing friends (who wouldn't love you?!) and you'll teach all those girls a thing or two (and trust me, they'll teach you a thing or two as well). going away to school means new experiences, as you know, and this is just a slight obstacle that you'll overcome happily. it's really not going to be that different from living in a co-ed rez, and i know you'll make the most of your time there because of how beautiful and intelligent and fun and kind you are. so just take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way; only say no when you have a midterm or essay due the next day; and remember i'm always there for you and have total faith in you and love you. plus, its easy to transfer to guelph if needbe :)

love,
sis

aw, someones been paying attention to all those motivational help books! but really, thanks hun. i know i'll survive it and probably wind up enjoying it (and if not, hey, you're the one who will have to deal with all the frantic "GET ME OUT OF HERE" phone calls at four in the morning). besides, i've talked with other chown girls who have already attempted to switch...and queens has basically been like "disabillity? illness? then i don't think so!".

how are you on a computer, tho? i thought they didn't have any at camp. just two more weeks and we will be spending mom's money shopping, instead of virtual complaining.

i miss you shorty!
love tash
