greenbelt photos and doodles 2010 ...
ok, here I present a pretty crappy photo of a pretty amazing rainbow. I first saw it when I was watching
Ugly Duckling on the main stage, and it looked like it was framing the stage. you could see right to the top. I didn't take a photo because of
that dream I had (which I turned into comic form if you're interested)
but the rainbow hung around for a suprisingly long amount of time. it was very clear, and you could see both sides and top of the semi circle really clearly. it looked like it framed the greenbelt site. so yeh, everyone got their cameras out to photograph the weather. which I thought was cool because I knew I could google it later for the photo and just enjoy looking at it while it lasted. it was absolutely AMAZING. so yeh, someone did get a
better photo of that rainbow umm yeh ... greenbelt has comics stuff. sorry again for not so great photography, I had to use my phone because all the batteries my parents packed were dead. anyway, this is
sally jane thompson's comics library. full of lots of lovely small press comics for people to read. there was some comics on the wall at the side too. :) we had a great time at the Comics Cafe on saturday evening. more turned up than expected. funny, several people thought it was an event that was going to involve comedians ... lol but some did stay when they found out what it was. :)
also - there was a collaborative comic people could get involved with. lots of people got involved, and they did manage to print 1 of each panel for the newspaper on monday.
you can read them online too here oh yeh, this was a cool graffiti thingi by the main stage. there was another bit of graffiti art I liked, but they painted over it before I went back to get a photo. :(
ummm I didn't do much 'location drawing' this year. I was helping out, and when I had free time I was very tired because I was a bit under the weather. there was also one night when some teenagers were pacing round my tent (weird.) and I was too paranoid to go to sleep until something stupid like 3/4am and then had to get up at 6am to make sure I got to the showers in time.
last year there was several bands I'd heard on 6music and I got to see at greenbelt. this year there wasn't many I'd heard of, so I just kinda 'stumbled' on any music. I was looking forward to Gil Scott Heron, but it was canceled (I don't know why) (lol we joked that damon albarn and gorilaz would come to the rescue XD hahaa)
these are doodles of
lucky elephant. I didn't know what to do while waiting for a lift on monday, so I just hung out in the big top for a while. really glad I went, I really loved this band. the big top was empty though, was there something more exciting on at that time I missed? (sorry if this band ever see these sketches, I draw straight in pen so big mistakes like that scribble on the right are kinda unavoidable)
lucky elephant again. ^^; I love melodicas. I also saw the end of
hhymn play ... made me wish I'd gone to the big top sooner, but I had to sort out some CD's of talks for mum and dad. and I'm glad I caught
the herbaliser play. but yeh, no doodles of these bands.
again from waiting around on monday. this is a jazz band with
arun ghosh. I stayed a bit too long, I should've been getting lunch before my lift home arrived. ^^; liked this jazz music more than I was expecting when I first went back into the big top.
oh yeh! and I saw
Beverly Knight on sunday night with my family. not my most favorite music, but shes amazing at singing, and had a this epic stage presence. I'm glad I went, I did some doodles the next day for Giant Rhinos stuff (I don't want to say much more about who or what here) but yeh, helpful to see a wide range of music while I was there.
This isn't really anything to do with greenbelt. my friend laura has gone to japan for a uni year. I dunno if this would surprise people now, but I spent all of secondary school drawing characters that looked like this. everyone this brightly coloured, yes, all the boys too. this is henry, hes an old and special character. just thought I'd share. I probably should've put this up wednesday night.
oh yeh, SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WOLRD WAS EPIC. I think Edgar Wright did a great job for such a difficult task. but I think envys lack of EPIC hair is a good visual comparison to the amount of EPIC that can be found in the books that just couldn't fit into the films. please go read the comics if you have not. they're great sutff, and some of the characters are lost in such a short film.
I doooo love love love love love the sound track though.
