Just came back from "Super 8".
I might get some flak for this but here it goes; It's a great summer flick. I know there are some complaints about it and yes there are flaws, but it has some really great characters and a solid storyline. There are lots of fantastic moments with these kids and the movie showcases their personalities and how they handle a terrible situation beautifully and in a way that is both humorous and exciting. The alien in this movie is given the Cloverfield treatment, meaning you only see bits and pieces of it until the end, but I'm glad it was more about the kids than the alien. Part of me wishes they would either cut the whole alien out (but then there would be no plot), or speed up the action just a tad(also the military is unnecessarily evil), but I digress. It's not meant to be deep, just fun. Super 8 was made to look and feel like an 80s classic sci-fi adventure, and I enjoyed that aspect of it as well. "The Case" at the end of the film was endearing and I really don't have many qualms about this film, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I guess I'm just a sucker for coming-of-age stories.
