second off, tv --
ugly betty.
if you havent seen it, then do so. its smart, its funny, its touching. its just really good. abc execs prove once again they know what theyre doing when they pick up pilots. not home thurs nights at 8pm? gotta watch smallville? well then, you can go to abc.com and click on "full episodes" on their menu, and watch every episdoe (theres only 3) since the pilot. go for it, if for nothing else, than the guy who plays daniel mead is really really uber uber fucking hott.
bones.
an old favorite of mine, but its getting really good this season. if you liked or loved the xfiles, youll be able to appreciate the relationship b/t bones and booth. but not be screaming as much as mulder/scully fans were for years. have something to do weds at 8? better programming? work? well, go to myspace and they have tv on demand, and not only bones, but every fox show has all episodes available for free. oh yeah. free tv. bc tv isnt supposed to be free, is it?
veronica mars.
i have to take a wee bit of time to promote it, theres no possibility of me not. its great. they have everything. mystery, noir, romance, humor, snark, murder, death, destruction, wit, examinations of society, class, race relations. its awesome. and season 3 is looking a lot like and has the feel of season 1, which was just superb in the realm of all television season 1's EVER.
and of course, shamless plugs for grey's anatomy and lost, but a lot of people watch those shows already.
third off, movies/dvds --
Tsotsi.
may have mentioned it last blog, but oh well. bc it deserves another mention. so. freaking. amazing. character story about a young man living in a shanty township in south africa, his life, and the events that procede from him stealing a car, shooting a woman, and taking off with her child in the backseat. its got subtitles, but get over it. its so good, and its really important that its in the native tongue of the people it focuses on. seriously. go fucking rent it. now.
The Little Mermaid, 2-disc special edition.
yeah, youve probably seen this a gazillion times like i did when i was a kid (and a teenager, and now as an adult, too). but its worth the bonus features that go in depth into disney animation, the story behind the movie, and all kinds of other stuff. hours of fun for the child at heart and a true disney fan like whoa.
over the hedge.
out on dvd, like, today. so funny. possibly better than madagascar. steve carrell. who can so no to him? seriously? oh and bruce willis (diana, shout out to you and your weird love for him).
Hard Candy.
oh. my. god. thats all i can say. disturbing. not realistic. but metaphorical. and socially conscious. youve got to see this, if not for simply the jaw dropping "i cant believe that just happened" experience of this movie. centered around a 14 year old girl and this dude (patrick wilson from phantom of the opera, hott) she meets on the internet. pedophilia imlpied but not implicit. go rent it now. its a shocker. and worth the discussion.
Howl's Moving Castle.
out for awhile on dvd, but i just bought it finally so its fresh in my mind. sooooo good. even if you dont like anime movies. the story is amazing. it speaks volumes about love and all kinds of other things. and yeah, i dont get love, but i get this movie.
Mickey's House of Villians.
for anyone who knows Mickey's House of Mouse (kinda like a disney version of Mystery Science Theatre 3000) this is a halloween special, with some new and classic disney cartoons featuring favorites and like, every villian ever in a disney movie or show. awesome.
